Voice Control

Hey guys I tried my voice control tonight for the first time and when I press the button on the wheel I hear the beep and the music goes out but that's it. It doesn't respond to me at all. I have to turn the Command off and back on to get music. Also nobody can hear me anymore on the phone until I turn off the whole car. I've read alot of people who have had the Vcm go bad but usually when bad it doesn't beep and nobody can hear them on the phone at all times. Mine only happens when I press it and I do hear the beep. Could it be programming? Thanks

Would be unlikely that version coding had changed if you mean that. I doubt it would have lost SW if you mean that. Have you tried to pull the VCM fuse off for a while to reset it? If it makes no difference, you could try to remove the module from the fibre loop for testing. Unfortunately for the VCM you would need to move microphone wires from the module to the phone control module to make audio input work without the VCM.

I haven't tried anything yet, but I have noticed this:

Once pressed I hear the beep and then nothing. I couldn't cancel it or anything, I had to turn Command off and back on. Once done music would return, but any phone calls could only be heard, no longer spoken too. Once car has been turned off and back on phone calls work again, and callers can hear me.

Once it beeped, and then after a moment it turned itself off and music came back.

I tried to do the learning procedure from the Comand and when it got to the point to ask me to repeat words, it just kept spinning please wait. Once canceled the music was off again and I had to turn it off and on again.

The strange thing is from what I can see when a module goes bad there is no mic all the time and no beep when pressing the button. This is not my case. Also, I've noticed that since they just upgraded my Mbrace that when I press it and speak to someone the volume is really loud, which has to be changed in Star. When I press the VC button the beep is that same over loud volume. I am wondering if they could be the same?

Try turning the volume knob up on the console after you hit that voice button and hear the beep. That volume knob is dual function and controls voice volume when active.

Also, have you tried the nav? Put in an address, then turn that volume knob up after you enter a destination and normally hear voice prompts.

I used the voice command often. Best way to test it is to try it with a phone call. Try saying "call john smith mobile" and see if she responds. When you press the voice button its not like other cars where it asks you what you want to do. For the radio and navi voice controls you have to be in that screen.

To cancel the voice control after you have pressed it, use the back button on the steering wheel.
