Advise on 2010 S400 Hybrid?

Hello all,

I am car shopping for a W221 and have been looking for an S550/S600 however I cam across an S400 Hybrid. I would not normally look at buying one of these but what caught my eye was this is FULLY loaded. It has the drivers assistance package (Blind spot, lane keeping, attention assist), night view assist plus, rear seat package with rear seat TV's, illuminated door sills, panoramic roof, heated steering whee etc. So when I mean loaded, it has almost all the options of an S600 but for MUCH less, and its the nice face lifted model. Obviously I know its no where near the V8 or V12 performance wise but that is not what I am really looking for. I am looking for comfort and options and this seems to have it all. What I want to know, is does anyone know of any major known issues with these? I know this was the first year of the S400's so just want some input.
The only known issue I can find about these is the AC randomly comes on after driving for a while, but it appears MB put up a service bulletin about a software fix about this.

Any advise would be appreciated! Thanks

The 400's are a steal (and you'll take a similar beating yourself on the backend when you unload it) but it is a very cost effective way to get into a late model S. Has to be CPO though or I'd pass. The hybrid powertrain is too new and quirky to risk having it out of warranty IMO.

IMHO this is spot on. I applaud the open minded nature of the response as opposed to the more predictable I drive V8 and would be caught dead in anything with less than xyz horsepower. Having said that one would be well advised to drive both as the hybrid brings some reported driving quirks. Not driven one I can't comment beyond that. For the right price I would be happy to have one.

I looked at both the S350 and the S400, and I chose the S350, better MPG, and I was betting on less potential issues over its lifetime

I believe Friz is in the US, so the S350 isn't an option.

Dave; the S350 was offered for sale in the US up until 2013. For 2014 it is not offered due to low sales in the USA.

Nore just using Carguru's site and entering a Florida zipcode and wallah, S350s on sale in the USA

Nuru, how are you enjoying your S350BT. I remember from here on the forums when you were looking and purchased the one with the beautiful brown interior. Are you happy with your purchase? Also, what type of mileage are you getting with it?

Yes I am and the best I have gotten is 33 mpg at a good clip on only a 40 mile trip one way. Probably could have gotten much higher if I would have gone a bit further..
