What does Deviating VIN mean?

What does Deviating VIN mean?
I've seen this 986 DEVIATING VIN WITH MODEL YEAR on some of the VIN reports and I was wondering what does this mean? Thanks.

It means that the actual build date of the car (which is encoded in the VIN) is different than the stated model year. Usually happens when a new model is introduced in the middle of a calendar year. Not a cause for concern.
