Tires on a Budget?

Tires on a Budget?
I'm a diehard Michelin guy but with 5 cars I may have to lower my standards from the Michelin's this time around, what other affordable choices do I have?
I'm running Sumitomo and they are horrible
sies are 255/35ZA20 and 285/30/AZ20
Any onlines stores besides Tire Rack?

Any reason you dont like Sumitomo? I currently have contis dws bad they arent bad. You could also try onlinetires.com. I've actually never purchased from them but they have a big selection.

I have the Falken Azenis P722 Touring tires on my S. They are the best touring tires I have ever had at any price. They were very reasonable. They are Ultra-quiet riding. Much better than the OEM Michelins. 600 Treadwear in my size. Great tire and I can't say enough good things about them.

Until someone with 'low end' tires finds himself skid off the road for no reason whatsoever ??The thing is your tricked into feeing safe (especcially with this car),untill you reach a fysical borderline situation, then things get out of hand big time ,very quickly.
Unless you drive like an old lady all the time, get the proper tyres for the proper car .. there is a reason expensive shoes are expensive I guess.

Installed a set of these today. Got a nail in the sidewall on the rear & it was time for a change. Hope they last as long as the ContiProContacts.

The S will wear down Sumi HTR rears in around 9k miles. Compound is too soft and the car is too heavy. The best riding, best lasting tire by a big margin on the S in my experience is the Michelin Pilot SuperSport. Not cheap, though.

I just bought a lease return that was shod with new Nexen 20 inchers. So far so good and the dealer said they are $1000 a set, which is pretty reasonable. Can't give you any more info than that for now, but at least it is one more date point.

The car's suspension and isolation is so good and so smooth that it will make even cheap tires ride better than they would on any other car, but if you want to feel your S Class at it's best, go with an OEM tire whenever possible. Not the place you want to scrimp.

To springboard from Mike's response above it's worth considering too that there are more components to the value equation than purchase price alone. My E diesel came with Michelins that lasted 45k miles and performed well for the duration. That was all the persuading I needed to stick with them.
I know I'm going to miss that kind of longevity on the S I just bought.

Yeah, the Pilot Sports have a really high mileage warranty at 30k, but it is cut in half on a staggered fitment (can't rotate). Still cheaper than buying two sets of Sumis over the same mileage.
