Stock bluetooth functionality?

When I first purchased my S550 I wasn't aware of the requirement of a separate bluetooth puck (and my car didn't have one).

Despite the lack of a puck, I was able to search for, and connect to my phone, it just didn't actually do anything from that point.

So, clearly the car has some built in bluetooth functionality, but what does it actually do? Connecting to a phone that you cannot make or receive calls from seems a bit strange. What am I missing?

Depends on the weather
You need the puck in order to use your phone.

Yes, I'm aware, and I have the puck. I'm just trying to figure out what the "puckless" bluetooth connectivity actually does aside from pairing with the phone.

I don't think it does anything. It will let you connect but there is no functionality that I am aware of.

Standard bluetooth will just let you send contacts to the car, not make any calls.

You have to pair the puck to your car....then your phone to the puck.

I feel like maybe nobody is reading my question... I understand how to use the puck. I have it, I'm paired, all is good.

I'm just trying to understand what the bluetooth in the car does (sans puck), and it sounds like it just loads contacts, which is a strange and relatively useless feature unless I'm missing something else here

The puck is an afterthought of MB. There's supposed to be a cradle that accepts a phone like the old Startac or a couple of other kinds that plugs in where the puck goes.
