Flash tuners will tell you their tuning maps can be flashed back to OEM before the car is sent in for warranty work, which is true. However it's also true that MB diagnostics can report the number of times the ECU has been flashed, and all work stops until it can be determined why and how the flash was done. It becomes a guilty until proven innocent situation as far as preserving the integrity of the warranty.
If you're out of warranty and you want a better tune, go for it, otherwise I'd steer clear,
Yes it is concerning performance in relation to warranty.Of course this has to do with road-safety as well, since automotive systems become more and more inter-dependant..
On the other hand I find it ridiculous that ,in this way the automotive industry wants to monopolise the repair and exclude the aftermarket industry.
Think there should be regulation on guarding open standards concerning repair and aftermarket software so that there remains an open market not being dictated by conglomerates of a few manufacturers.
