Searching UDS, I found "Unified Diagnostic Services" that will eventually replace K-Line. I'm sure the W221 supports K-Line, but does it also use UDS and/or offer additional diagnostic/tweaking capabilities when UDS is used?

Thanks guys. I have not seen C5, but I have seen "C4+". It is described as "The old MB STAR C4 can not support UDS diagnose protocol for its main board doesn't have UDS chip" whereas C4+ does support UDS.

This is the guy I got mine from. Its been working fine and and it even was able to update the firmware in the mux. Some of the bad chinese clone muxs get locked if you try to update them

I purchased my STAR system from www.autoscanit.com back in December 2014.
I got it around that time frame because there was Christmas sale going where I could get $500 off.
I followed and kept tabs on the company for almost a year before actually pulling the trigger. So far the system has paid for itself in the fact that I have never had to visit the dealership.
I haven't had to use the system much because my vehicle has had little to no problems, just regular maintenance items. There are some days where I will sit there and study the work instructions on various cars along with other parts of the STAR system. I'm just one of those guys that just loves to learn.

As many said, very useful tool if you want DIY. All you need are c4 mux hardware $360,
obd2 cable $20, used dell d360 with win xp $80, free xentry / das , wis software from *******.com. Installation needs a bit of work but instruction is available from *******.com.
Good thing about c4 is the wifi so you can use the tool remotely

Apparently on the overseas forums they indicate that the C3 is for the 2009 and before cars. The C4 is for the 2010 and above. They also seem to warn that you really need to be careful if you use the C3 with the 2010 and above cars. they were not exactly specific but I also got that from someone in the long-term STAR/XENTRY Thread on this forum too.

Ive used C4 for all cars. There is no reason for C4 not working for old cars. They would never do a new Product not working for oldcars. That is just plain silly.

Guys, why not order these tools directly from China from a trustworthy shop. No point paying delivery to Europe (or elsewhere outside NA), pay customs duties/VAT, then post to the US/Canada, possibly pay again duties or tax.

I would pick up one that has a proper PCMCIA connector with guides and a proper WLAN card, not that poor WLAN card attached with tape (not that this detail would be the most important one but it does reflect the mux quality elsewhere too).
