The problem is that the front rotors are rusty and with the new wheels, it shows and looks bad...

I agree but if you change the rotors you're gonna have to get new pads as well and you prob should get some Akebono's because they produce less brake dust. I personally prefer the stopping power of the oem pads but the Akebono's are great as well.

Will u have the akebono on your Benz? On the BMW the stock had a better feel but on the Benz I think the Akebono are a better feel.

So, lets say on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst. The factory pads rate as a 10 for brake dust if you ask me!

My other cars can go weeks with barely a hint of any it seems. Those with Akebono's, what do you rate them for dust, or would you say they give 50% less dust?

Honestly, the stock pads really aren't that dusty. Perhaps it's my gun metal finish on my wheels that cover it up pretty good, but when I wash my car there isn't a ton a dust coming off of them.


If you want to see dusty pads, you should check out the stock pads for the E60 M5. You'd come to just 1 regular stop after cleaning the wheels and you could rub dust off with your finger. The Brembo pads on my old Chrysler SRT8 were super dusty too, so I swapped them out to Centric Posi Quiet pads, which eliminated about 80% of the dust.


Please realize that a less dusty pad will definitely lengthen stopping distances as they have less bite. On wet roads, the loss of stopping power is much more noticeable.


To combat the dust issue, you might want to consider rims with a gun metal finish. They look awesome and hide the dust nicely. That way you can keep your stopping power and have your car perform the way it's supposed to.

Jason I don't know if you ever owned a BMW but the oem brake pad dust on bimmers is hands down worst than the Benz, that's why I really don't have an issue with my cars brake pads.

The type of wheel you have plays a big part in how much the dust shows as well but regardless the bimmer dust was much worst and I'm talking big brakes from two previous 7 series and my wife's 335 coupe.

Cool on the replies... Never had a BMW, but I've seen those things with BLACK front wheels, when the rear wheels are silver I avoid those kind of cars like the plague.

will maybe yours is diff because yours is newer? Mine is a 2010 and the dust is just as bad as my bmws. I had brand new pads too from the dealer. The akebonos feel better than the stock brakes on the benz. Jason its a pretty quik Diy and I think the fr and rears ran me like 125.00 shipped and 2 hrs of my time. Def worth doing I would rate the stocks a 10 in dust and the akebonos a 1. especially with the new wheels I don't want to see brake dust after every drive! If u need a couple pointers to swap them let me know.

advanceauto and use a coupon code (google)...get the front and rears for like 80.00.

Yeah I haven't washed my car in 3 weeks and the during that time I've driven to Canada and the wheels tho not clean (neither is the car), still look very good. My previous bimmers wheels would look like were black right about now lol.

With akebono pads they prob still look like they did 3 weeks ago when I washed it.
