Oh how it saddens me to have to burst your invincible button, but as I said before RPM is the same in Metric or Imperial measures. Number 2, for your information you CAN change the speedometer cluster to MPH from KPH through the speedo cluster I just did it and the cluster shows 160 MPH as the upper limit. I haven't been able to change the temperature to Fahrenheit from Celsius, but hopefully that is also possible as it was on thw W 220.

Who said anything about the tach/RPM's? Please post some pics of your speedo in KPH and MPH and the odometer in miles and kilometers so we Americans can see what you're talking about. That is not an option on American cars, so my bubble is still intact.

Here is a pic of the only option we have on American cars to see KPH. Nothing on the speedo or odometer changes to metric. This feature is accessed through the "settings" on the gauge cluster. The speedometer and odometer cannot be changed to metric.

Right. On US spec cars you only get the option to display that little metric speedo or not (and then its just a blank space). I don't think you can change the scale of the main speedo to metric. If you can, I've never seen the toggle for it.

I do apologize for the quality of the photos however it was raining outside (flashback) and dark in the garage (flashback). However from the 5 shots you can see the 2 speedo options as well as the instructions in the speedo portion of the cluster. Unfortunately I still haven,t been able t

o change the temp display.

That's pretty cool that you Canadians get the option to toggle back and forth. I'm sure that's something that very few forum members knew about until now. I guess MB figured that Canadians might make frequent trips to the US where they need the option. But I guess they must have figured that US citizens don't travel much to Canada, thus we don't get that option.

So my standard US issued MY '11 S550 will infact allow you to change the speedometer display and digital miles to metric from SAE just as mrbobby has described. Interesting when in metric mode, the OAT is still displayed in deg. F. I seem to remember that there is also a metric/SAE toggle in command too.

How are you getting to those screens? I know that pre-facelift there isn't anything within COMAND or on the dash display that shows these options. Mike's 2010 doesn't have it either. Perhaps it was added in 2011?

If you can take some step-by-step photos of the screens that get you there, I think the forum would be grateful.

So here are some before and after photos of the display. The display is not changed in command. It is changed using the buttons on the steering wheel. You navigate to the setting menu and one of the choices is Units of Measure. It is here where you can toggle between metric and SAE. It is also covered on page 377 and 378 in the MY2011 S class manual. See attached PDF.

Same here on my 2012. See the page from the user manual.

Perhaps MB was predicting a spike in US tourism to Canada by the year 2020....so in typical MB fashion, they wanted to have the technology first allowing owners to toggle their screens between US and metric.

My 2008 S550 has this option to change as well. Was sure it did but wasn't wanting to argue until I went out in the garage just now and confirmed. U.S. Car.

Well this is getting really confusing. Not sure why some cars would have it, but most don't in the US. My S600 doesn't have it....Mike's 2010 S550 doesn't have it.

The only thing I can decipher is that a dealer at some point must have done an update to the computer that controls the dash display. Maybe Konigstiger might have more info on this?

Well crap mine does it to. I never dug deep into that sub menu before. I'm going to leave it on metric because now my car can go twice as fast.

OK then....maybe the lack of feature was just limited to 2007 model? Who the f#$% knows? Actually, I really don't care because I'm pretty sure my car will not be making any trips to Canada. And even if it did, I could rely on that little Klm/hr reading above the temp gauge.

I just went onto the MBUSA website & looked at the owners manuals. Apparently this feature was added for the 2009 models as the 2007 & 2008 manuals had no mention of this feature. So we'd have to assume that anybody who had it prior to the 2009 model must have had it flashed by a dealer to add the feature....or perhaps MB started adding the feature to very late production 2008 models.

Never use the feature. It must be added for the limited time some people may venture into Canada for what ever reason. It is interesting that when switched to metric, the OAT still displays in degrees F. Go figure.

It simplifies the manufacturing. My Z06 had the same option to change the speedo. Allows them to sell "North American" cars vs US/Canadian.

Updating COMAND is likely the culprit. I have a 2007 S550 and the options changed for sure after having the dealer update COMAND to the latest version
