Just purchased
I found a 2008 S450 4Matic with 95,000 KM
Options:
- AMG Sport package (wheels and body kit)
- keyless go
- heated rear seats
- rear side sunshades
- will post others as I discover them :-)
Initial thoughts, observations, and surprises:
- By far the best car I've ever driven - much better than a w220 s430 I also looked at.
- unreported and botched paint-job (color is a little off under bright sunlight) on rear quarter.
- looks like the S450 was only offered in Canada (not the US) so it's a little tough to find reviews and articles etc. online.
- keyless go was a surprise I discovered after 5 days of driving the car - found the keyless go button in the ash tray!
- Looks a little smaller than I expected - might be SWB. Will update when I get around to measuring it (or if someone on the forum knows better; or if I park right next to an S550). Also, AMG kit makes it look a little smaller than regular w221s - kind of like an oversized C-class.
- Not as much rear legroom as I expected.
- Still trying to break the habit of looking back at it when walking away in a parking lot
If yours is SWB the chunk they took out to shorten it is between the B and C pillars, so that's where the rear legroom went. They do look sportier though than the stretched cars do.

Let us know if we can help give her a facelift with some modern whiter lighting

However if the rolling diameter difference is under 3%, no problem. As it happens, the stock staggered 20" tire size is under 3%.
Thanks

There's very little difference in the 450 and 550. Primarily it is rear seat space and 4.7 liter engine versus 5.5 liter engines. Fuel economy is superb in the 450 model with 30 MPG not at all unusual, also the large fuel tank (90 liters or approximately 55 U.S. gallons makes a long trip a lot more enjoyable. I have to stop one less time for fuel on the way to Naples Florida.
If someone wanted a 2008 S 450 with reasonable options, I would sell mine for $21,000 (what I have in it) and 78,000 miles (will be more after driving to Naples in December).

You will have a hard time selling your Canadian car here in the US....unless you discount it deeply.

I've noticed the forum seems to be very irritable lately, using Mike's experience as an example. Is it a full moon or something?
