External Hacking Vulnerability?
External Hacking Vulnerability?
Ok, if someone else has a thread on this let me know but I wanted to try to get information on the vulnerability of our cars to remote hacking. Ok, so apparently the bluetooth linkage between our phones and the car is RF visible for 30 feet or so, so that is one was someone in close proximity could potential find a way in. however, I am a bit unfamiliar how MB arranges and configures the CAN bus clients and if it is configured like Chrysler's was (before the recent fix that locks out access to any of the major controlling subsystems in the car), where remotely accessing the canbus via the uconnect system and exploiting connectivity to all the systems in the car.
I wonder if MBRACE provides a way in?

I'm just glad I'm not handling auto accident claims anymore. Drivers normally deny being at fault because their brakes "failed". What they meant is that before they hit the other car, they slammed on the brakes but they still ran into the other car, ergo, brake failure.
Now with this hacking stuff I guarantee people will start claiming it as a liability defense. Or that the cars autonomous driving features...pre collision braking, lane keeping...took over and deprived the driver of control.

Yeah, insurance could become a nightmare for the insurance firms as if someone wants to be a total axxhole they could really do some costly and deadly damage by hacking into cars. Even worse would be to hack into traffic signals - but that is a lot harder due to how they actually configure the systems.
They definitely need to get control of all these drones that are being sold to the general public. They are definitely asking for trouble once and if they get into the wrong hands of the criminally insane!
It's MUCH worse that there are drones spying on normal citizens by our govt. I suppose you could call our government criminally insane.

Actually, I would think that the drones in the hands of the criminally insane is a lot worse than the GOVT spying on you apparently it is way too late to worry about that
). Some crazed moron might try to use a drone to cause havok.
However, the immediate focus on this thread is trying to get any info on the vulnerability of our cars to external hacking.
