Going from under the car you gotta first remove the oil filter housing and allow any oil to drain back into the engine and remove it. Then the remove two plastic panels with an 8mm socket. Its a pain in the *** because there are I believe 18 of these you have to remove. Have a creeper and a electric screw driver handy to speed up the job. Then you remove the drain plug and copper crush washer. Replace with a new copper crush washer and torque to 30nm (~22ft/lbs). button up the panels. Now go up to the top. Remove the fleece filter from the housing, replace all rubber o rings. There will be some extra O-rings because each model has a different set of rings it uses. Just take them off one by one starting with biggest and just put an ever so thin layer of oil on them. Now push the fleece filter on so that you cannot see both lines. You will see two drawn lines on the filter. If you cannot see both, then you have pushed it down far enough. There will be a pic on the box showing you this. Now what I like to so is fill up the oil through the oil filter metal casing because it is wide enough so that you do not need a funnel. The oil filler hole is really small. Now screw on the filter housing and torque to 25nm (~18ft/lb) and voila you're done
The second method I prefer is that topsider method. You can buy either a hand actuated topsider or a pneumatic topsider
. If you have an air compressor I'd highly suggest getting a pneumatic one from Harbor freight
Step one, take out the oil dipstick, step two insert tube from extractor, step three remove oil filter housing to allow fluid to come out quickly, step four suck out oil, step 5 remove oil filter and install new o-rings and filter, step six pour in new oil, step 7 install oil filter housing and torque to 25nm. Done no getting under the car!!!

No dipstick??Should have ..
(Edit: ?as of Facelift m.y. 2010 M-B in their endless wisdom have gotten rid of this annoying useless thing called dipstick?)
Oil synthetic to the specs 229.3 or 229.5 can be from 5W30 -0W40 I prefer 0W40 with 229.5 spec.
Please do no overtighten the filter-housing as the large o-ring will give way and you will have an under hood oil fountain..
Personally I prefer to drain via the plug as any possible crud collected in the pan will be flushed but indeed 60000 screws to remove for the cover..
Now I do this every other change as the suction method is way easier and quicker.
Just take notice how much is coming out should be about 8 liters. Fill up and re-check level with dipstick after a short run etc.

Depends on the weather
I use 0W40 - I asked the dealer about this and they said their bulk oil for oil changes is 0w40 but if I ever needed to buy oil from them it's 5w30 that they sell in the parts dept.

Ok, why is my dealer saying that my car has no oil dipstick. Are they wrong? I know some older CLS's didn't have a dipstick, but is this true for 2010-2013 S550?

Yup 8.5 there's a function in the instrument cluster that will tell if you are alright if you in fact do not have a dipstick. My 03 w211 e320 had that on it. My 2009 s550 has a dipstick

A kit like the one at this link will contain everything needed
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...mloilchangekit
As others have suggested, original supplier brands like Hengst, and Mann are excellent choices
Lastly an oil filter socket like this one is always good to have around

My 2012 S550 does have a dip stick and the filter listed earlier in the thread is not correct for the later turbo cars.

Later M278 turbo cars would take this kit that contains the filter you mentioned

As far as the oil filter goes, if your car is still under the factory warranty you really don't have a choice of what Brand of filter to buy, it needs to be an OEM MB oil filter. If you buy another brand and something goes south in your engine the factory doesn't have to cover the car's warranty because they'll say you didn't use a MB oil filter. And as trite as it seems don't kid yourself they will deny coverage of your warranty if you don't have an MB oil filter in there even though Mann makes most of the OEM MB oil filters. A friend of mine that owns the local MB dealer said they just had a problem with that. A customer took his "E" class to a Jiffy Lube type oil change place and they of course didn't use an MB oil filter and to make matters worse they put the filter in backwards! Needless to say there was nothing the dealer could do to help the customer and he was on the hook for a new engine which I have no idea how much that costs but I would guess around $10k+. Unless you know what you're doing under the hood and if your car is still under warranty although we all know the dealership will cost you as much as 30% more than a private shop, in the long run it still maybe cheaper to use the dealer you bought the car from. Lastly, a genuine MB oil filter even from the dealer isn't going to break the bank at around $20 versus buying a cheap-o $8 to $10 filter.
