Upgraded rear diffuser

I have the s550 amg package and realized you can just change the rear diffuser to give it the look of the s63/s65. I have a few questions: I think the s63 diffuser is different than the s65 diffuser. I think the s65 rear diffuser is bigger. Can anyone confirm? Also I want to purchase the quad tips going from a s550 amg package. There are a couple exhaust tips on eBay I see. Some, the back pipe is offset and some the hookup is straight to the two pipes. I'm going to attach a link. I'm thinking the offset one is the one to purchase but I need someone to confirm who has done this mod.

Vs this straight one

Thanks

s550
so i have the tips that are straight. the ones in the 2nd pics for $245. even looking at the pics of the first one it is the same. you see how the metal is curved in. when the exhaust gases exit it hits inside where its curved in and makes sorta a weird noise. I actually hate it and looking for a different tip now.

Unfortunately the S63/S65 2 piece diffuser is not a direct fit to the basic AMG bumper. The inner structure of the stock bumper is different in a couple of key ways.

The biggest issue is that the quad tips are much larger than the stock tips. When you try to install the S63 piece, it reveals part of the inner bumper structure that has to be Dremmled off to make room for the new tips.

Your stock "tips" aren't actually tips at all. They're not connected to the exhaust. They're actually part of the bumper. You'll need to have a shop fabricate a way to attach the tips to the exhaust.

Last, the bottom edge of an S63 diffuser hangs lower than the stock diffuser, and the locking tabs don't line up. As a result, you need to fabricate something to secure the lower edge, or at speed the airflow will peel it off the car. The tops do match up.

Thanks guys for the info. So either exhaust tips will work? If the one makes a noise u recommend trying the other one? It will still line up?

The foolproof way to do it is to buy the aftermarket S63 rear bumper from Gary@suvneer here on the forum. It comes complete, with the right tips, and it all fits together. Otherwise it's a bit of a hatchet job to make it work. I did mine along with a Becker axle back exhaust trying to go cheap using just the diffuser. I made it work, and I love how it looks/sounds but I didn't do the cars value any favors.

If you go the diffuser route, Rock Auto sells the two OEM pieces for a little under $400. The center piece needs to be painted. OEM they were the cars body color. I did mine in silver for contrast.

Mike, I've been thinking about updating the rear to the square tips(2010 and up)). Can I get away with buying the 2010 stock diffuser and tips?

I have my old stock diffuser and the square tips from my 2010 in the garage. PM me a mailing address and I'll send them to you. I have no use for them here, just couldn't bring myself to toss them in the trash. 😜

What's the quality like of the non oem setup? What's the cost? Is it made of the same material? I'm still confused on which tip to get if I get the oem setup?

There's a thread on this forum with pics and sound clips. Search for "Becker Axle Back Exhaust. Thoughts?". It goes into the diffuser stuff as well. I'd link it for you but I'm on my cell and it closes the app when I paste a link.

I have been doing some research and correct me if I'm wrong but the s65 never went to square style back tips. It seems that the s63 in 2013 went to square but the s65 always kept a round quad exhaust. Maybe I'm wrong but I can't find one.

I think that's correct.
