I want to say pushing $400. It is a huge battery with a lot of cranking amps. Since it combined the accessory battery and the starter battery in one it's not cheap.

You can buy a matching AGM battery at many auto-parts stores for under $150.

$414. I just thought was was insane for a battery. I wouldn't buy from the dealer anyway, but damn.

Mine had some prorated warranty left on it. Forget what I paid but it wasn't close to full boat.

I recently had my battery replaced gratis under warranty. For those that are still under warranty, try that avenue first. $400+ is one expensive OEM battery!!

That battery drawing looks like it was done by my 10 year old son.

At first I didn't realize it was a drawing at all. I thought it was a photograph. The level of detail is astonishing. I felt like I could reach into my monitor and touch it. Breathtaking.

Bought mine at Autozone $158 with 5 yr warranty. I like Autozone, they have replaced batteries in my other cars with no hesitation. Once while in Oklahoma on business.

Was it a AGM battery? Remember, the factory battery is an AGM, which is much more robust than standard acid.

Jason...All of the numbers look very close. If it becomes a problem i will definitely get it replaced. It was the local managers suggestion. Price difference was minimal.

Factory battery is an AGM and it's recommended over an acid battery.

$169 is a good price for what is basically the identical battery to what the dealer sells. There aren't a lot of battery manufacturers, so if it isn't a very very close copy it may actually be the same thing re-labelled.

I'd drop the $169 in a heartbeat and put that battery in. If you're trying to save $ an acid battery works just fine too.

I went and bought an Everstart Maxx H8 at Walmart (Canada) for I think $125Cdn. That was THREE years ago for a diesel GL and it is about to go into it's 4th winter (and almost 100,000km or 60,000 miles) since replacement. I'll probably replace it in the spring just because I don't believe it will last 7 yrs like the original. Probably a waste to replace it but for $125 for the next 4 years of worry free driving it's worth it.

It is an acid battery (probably the same battery as the $119 Sam's club one).

Works just like the original and I'm really happy with it. It is in the passenger compartment to (under passenger seat) so if an acid battery is OK there, it's definitely OK under the hood of an S-class. Had the same vent tubing holes/configuration so the vent tubes plugged right in.

Got this one put in today. Original battery was starting to crank weak, and this battery is an AGM and same as factory specs, or more. Factory battery got decent life I'd say.

Around here it was around $650.

And yeah, I agree, OEM MB batteries are pretty good. I like how they last.

But Dave those don't have Mercedes logos on them. I mean come on that adds at least twice to three times the price.

does the car need to be programmed after a battery swap like the 7 series do?

Nope. On the pre face-lift cars, the electrical components will hold a charge from the starter battery. On the 2010+ cars, the components will hold a charge from the small battery under the dash while the old battery is being swapped.

No programming needed. You keep all of your radio presets, seat memory, etc. Just replace and go.

thats pretty cool. I didn't know that about 2010. Is that small battery just for that purpose? Any pic of this thing for fun?

I don't think that is the only purpose of the under-dash battery. I have a pre face-lift car, so I don't have a pic of that battery. But I'm sure a search of the forum will yield you some pics.

This H8 AGM is the exact same battery used as the accessory battery in the pre face-lift cars. I like the idea of having a separate starter battery. My original accessory battery lasted 10 years, while the original starter battery got 9 years of use.
