Guess how much dealer wants for a new battery (2010-2013 S550)

I want to say pushing $400. It is a huge battery with a lot of cranking amps. Since it combined the accessory battery and the starter battery in one it's not cheap.

Ok, Sam's club has it. When I called them before I posted, they said they didn't, but they do. Two choices. Again, this is for 2010-2013 S550 with ONE battery up front, both 3 year free replacement:

At first I didn't realize it was a drawing at all. I thought it was a photograph. The level of detail is astonishing. I felt like I could reach into my monitor and touch it. Breathtaking.

Was it a AGM battery? Remember, the factory battery is an AGM, which is much more robust than standard acid.

Jason...All of the numbers look very close. If it becomes a problem i will definitely get it replaced. It was the local managers suggestion. Price difference was minimal.

Factory battery is an AGM and it's recommended over an acid battery.
$169 is a good price for what is basically the identical battery to what the dealer sells. There aren't a lot of battery manufacturers, so if it isn't a very very close copy it may actually be the same thing re-labelled.
I'd drop the $169 in a heartbeat and put that battery in. If you're trying to save $ an acid battery works just fine too.
I went and bought an Everstart Maxx H8 at Walmart (Canada) for I think $125Cdn. That was THREE years ago for a diesel GL and it is about to go into it's 4th winter (and almost 100,000km or 60,000 miles) since replacement. I'll probably replace it in the spring just because I don't believe it will last 7 yrs like the original. Probably a waste to replace it but for $125 for the next 4 years of worry free driving it's worth it.
It is an acid battery (probably the same battery as the $119 Sam's club one).
Works just like the original and I'm really happy with it. It is in the passenger compartment to (under passenger seat) so if an acid battery is OK there, it's definitely OK under the hood of an S-class. Had the same vent tubing holes/configuration so the vent tubes plugged right in.

Nope. On the pre face-lift cars, the electrical components will hold a charge from the starter battery. On the 2010+ cars, the components will hold a charge from the small battery under the dash while the old battery is being swapped.

and the adaptations dont need to be reprogrammed? I hope this is the case... On the 7 series dealer battery from dealer is 7-900.

thats pretty cool. I didn't know that about 2010. Is that small battery just for that purpose? Any pic of this thing for fun?

I don't think that is the only purpose of the under-dash battery. I have a pre face-lift car, so I don't have a pic of that battery. But I'm sure a search of the forum will yield you some pics.

This H8 AGM is the exact same battery used as the accessory battery in the pre face-lift cars. I like the idea of having a separate starter battery. My original accessory battery lasted 10 years, while the original starter battery got 9 years of use.
