I like that all glass dash in the E, but the analog gauges on the C are growing on me.

I love the look of the C63, but having driven the C450 with essentially the same sport suspension and magnetic shocks it was too much coming from the S. The C63s run in the $80k range decently equipped which I would have done (reluctantly) but I liked the C300 on AirMatic the best from the drivers seat. (I had to build a car to get AirMatic. There are like 17,000 new C Class for sale in the U.S. and like 11 with Air, none the way I wanted.)

I would guess the newer design C will not be like that and I understand you optioning airmatic to get some additional cushiness. I would add that many of the roads in the northeast really make an a good argument against an overly jiggly suspension. Even my crappy Chevy Volt is more absorbent, although clearly the E was way nicer than the Volt.
There used to be a C400 that allowed the turbo 6 to be combined with airmatic, but I see that's no longer available. I used to avoid air suspension in general but now I'm hooked as well. I really need to stay away from ABC.

What did the previous owner say about the functionality of the car, I assume you talked to him. If so did he mention any issues or was the car running fine before the accident. May help with some of the diagnosis.

I've spoken to him on a few occasions. He said it was a good car and he always had it serviced. But the oil filter looked Very bad and the motor oil was black and sludged on the bottom of my oil containers. From the he explained it he took decent care of it.
I asked about previous issues, Specifically asking about the electrical system. He said there were no issues.
Just a side note, the rotors had Mountains of rust on them from sitting so long.
Couldn't get ahold of the russian electrical specialist today. I hope he can make a house call tomorrow to tend to my injured 'Cedes.

Nice color combination and interior. I've had a C300 as a loaner vehicle a couple times and it's a peppy little sedan. The only thing I didn't like was that the wood paneling on the door felt flimsy. Other than that it's a great little car. I especially like the traditional grille with the louvers that open automatically when the engine gets up to temp. That is a cool feature.

Mate, after reading this thread I am amazed how people are talking down the S-Class. Here in Europe a 9 year old S-class is no age and 80.000miles is no mileage. I can't see why this car can't be salvaged easily enough. You do need some proper friends and helpers though plus don't rush into decisions and some luck wouldn't go amiss.
I seem to remember form a Mercedes technical day that the S221 has a simplified electrical system because they were having so many issues with the electrics but in your case you need someone with some knowledge at your side. Surely someone can take you under their wing and lead you to safe waters...
I agree that you need to work out what is going on with the electrics once that is done do the bodywork and then look into servicing. If the car has been serviced properly then you should be able to know when the transmission oil has last been changed or when it needs changing in any case I wouldn't do that DIY unless you get supervised professionally.
In any case I am rooting for you, it will be awesome when it's sorted.

Yeah, after three in a row and ten years I'm all S Classed out. I happened to get a C300 as a loaner for a couple of weeks while the S waited for a back ordered strut and it was a blast to drive. I ordered a build back in January and last I heard it had been released to the carrier so I should have it shortly.
2016 C300 AMG SPORT PALADIUM SILVER, Crystal grey leather, black open pore wood trim, every option except roller shades.
Attachment 327120
Attachment 327119
Attachment 327118
(Not mine, same build)

What I don't know yet is why my battery icon is blaring at me.

When the car is running and The battery icon light is on, indicate the regulator/charging system on the alternator is malfunctioning. I would replace the alternator. Unless you know the the belt is slipping at the pulley.

Pull the alternator and take it to a motor shop or O'Reilly's and have it tested. If it is bad a good motor shop can probably rebuild it for less than the cost of a new one. I do find it odd that you are having these problems with a car that ran fine according to the previous owner.

This whole episode reminds me of my first boat. Bought a 10 year old boat with 30 hours on it thinking it was a great deal because of the hours. Not so, it sat on a trailer for most of its prior life while every rubber gasket and seal proceeded to rot and dry out. Ended up replacing most of the rubber on the boat, and there is a lot of it. Finally got it sorted and realized I could have just spent a few more bucks and got a new boat with none of the problems. Went from living in fear every time I took the old boat out, to having a blast on the newer one. Point is, don't get so deep on this car that you end up hating it. If you have to, cut your losses and save up for a while for the right car.

I tore the wires for the DRL and corner lamp. One sensor got loose. I fixed those this morning. The cover is still not quite lined up in the wheel well and fender. Probably have to have the shop finish it up so I don't make it worse.
