07 S 550 Amg Sport Package- worth the money?
I currently have a w211 that I love but I'm looking at an 07 S 550 with the amg sport package. Local private seller is asking $21,500. It has a brand new transmission. 88500 miles. Seller is second owner.
What do you all think? Is it worth it, considering everything else is in good condition? 07 w221 owners, what are your maintenance costs like at this stage?

At this stage the maintenance costs are highly unpredictable. Any one part can fail at any time...(and will fail to be honest). The amg sport package is not a factor to command a premium at this point in my opinion given many are facelifting their cars with the the new aftermarket bodykits.
Here is my advice, if we agree you will be gearing up to spend 3-5k in repair bills on said car in the very nearest future, i would suggest you add that money to what you have now and at least buy a 2010+ S class. you can find some with similar mileage for between 23-25k.
Same mileage but newer parts at least. And facelift body also.

2015 S550
I have an '07 S600 that I purchased in Nov, 2014 with 24k miles. 1 owner car with a full meticulous service history. Southern CA car with owner being in his 70's. I purchased a service contract for 7 years, 75k miles. So far I have over $11k in warranty repairs and just turned 36k miles. And I do not EVER beat on my car. Only regular maintenance so far has been an oil change. Everything else is broken stuff. The S600 has more stuff that can break due to the higher equipment levels than the S550, but all of these cars are prone to very expensive repairs. ABC seems to be the most problematic area on the S600. Airmatic and the 7 speed tranny seem to be the most problematic items in the S550. But all of these cars suffer from issues that are very expensive to fix. They even develop software glitches as they age. Wonderful cars to drive. Expensive to own.
IMO, you'd be better off spending $10k more to get a newer car with low miles where you can purchase a service contract. I purchased my contract dirt cheap through my credit union and they have been awesome so far. You'll spend far less in the long run (including the cost of the car and warranty) than what you'd spend on the 88k mile car over 3 years.
