Brake then surge forward

2008 S550 72K

Sometime when I release brake the car surges forward - Similar to popping a clutch

Not always - just sometimes

Any ideas to what it could be?????

Transmission issue. Alx can likely tell you what needs to be replaced.

Yup. It is a fuel saving feature introduced to the 7g tranny some time in 2014. When stopped on a flat surface the tranny will go into neutral and when you release the brake it will engage. Depending on the phase of the moon some cars will develop the "tug" when engaging. There is a software fix for it. Drop at dealer and ask to apply KID patch. The exact tcu patch escapes me but the dealer will not exactly what to do.

Thank you for your input - Good News - is this something they charge for or is it considered a service campaign item ?

They will charge you some labor. No part are required. If after the flash the problem persists then there are some additional steps that can be taken but those will be more expensive.

Campaigns are usually reserved for safety issues.

I just spoke to dealer who honestly I don't trust due to some previous dealings with my S500 but they are the dealer in my area

$157.00 for diagnostics

If not software patch what else might I expect ?

In addition it seems I should replace the Johnson rods as well 2008 S550 72 K miles

Please advise as I need to budget - Just purchased car which wiped out my reserve

Thank you in advance
