Parktronic not working right

hello all. On my 2008 s550 my parking sensors (both front and rear) won't work. They turn on but don't detect anything and will sometimes make noises also the warning lights that tell you how close you are to an obstical are stuck on
. I checked the sensors, all seem clean and in good order and plugged in securely. What could be the problem?

Are you serious, that is an extremely complicated system that requires factory or equal diagnostic software to identify the faults. It aint a DIY!

I'm sure the OP found that response very helpful.

I'm not quite sure what you're trying to accomplish with this comment. But yes, I am serious. I want to know whats wrong with my Parktronic. And no I dont have to bring my car to a MB professional at the first sign of any potential issue. That's ludicrous.

Also, Parktronic is a simple system compared to others in the W221. We're talking about simple sonar systems that sends a signal to an LED panel. It's NOT complicated and does NOT require the STAR system to access it.

Definitive diagnose have someone pull fault codes using MB DAS (diagnostics) may be as simple as clearing stored codes from control unit. Steadfast on DIY (Parktronic code 220) pull 142 @ rear SAM (Park Assist 229) 135 for about 15 minutes in an attempt to reset. Replacement: https://workshop-manuals.com/mercede...unit/page_204/

You can pull data card to confirm code here: https://www.datamb.com

Has anyone installed Parktronic after purchase and how much did it cost?

IMHO, Adding Parktronic or Park Assist (even worse cost-wise) would be cost prohibitive. And, it does't work that great... It rarely helps me park, but after about 50 years of driving w/o Park Assist (radar assisted) I probably don't get within a meter of another car w/o knowing where I am. On the other hand, I'm not saying it's not useful. I wish I had it on my Ferrari when I got a little too close to a fence when backing up... Ouch...

parktronic

Thanks for the comments. The E350 Cab is my wife's car. My 2008 S550 has Parktronic and she really likes it. Has anyone heard of " Fens Sens Smart Wireless Sensor" ? Sensors are attached to front license plate holder and an app in your iPhone is the warning module. License plate holder, sensors and iPhone cradle costs less than $200. Sure beats Parktronic for thousands!

I apologize for bringing up this old thread. I had a similar issue with my vehicle recently; the Mercedes Parking Assist is not working properly, as I thoroughly checked the issue, I found out that I had a bad grounding issue in the system, I perfectly tight the grounding points to fix the issue. I came across an in-depth article that may be worth reading. Search for "Troubleshooting Mercedes Parking Sensor Parktronic Problems on YOUCANIC" and you will see an article that goes over common causes and possible fixes. You can read about it yourself. I hope this information can assist someone else with a similar issue.
