Windshield taking FOREVER for replacement!
Hey all
Front window while at my local front clear bra shop was shot by a BB gun.
So, I had to get a new windshield. My local good windshield guy apparently has gotten the wrong windshield twice. I trust him, he's great.
He now says he needs to get the windshield from Mercedes and that it might have to come from Germany...
Anyone else run into this issue?
Thank you

For my former E-class, i ordered a aftermarket winshield, but it was the same one as the OEM, but it did not come with the MB sticker. My local dealer told me that once I got it installed, i should bring it by and then their parts people can verify that it is the same part number as the OEM, then they would install the sticker on my lower right windshield and no one would know the difference. I would imagine, if your installer were to source the same vendors as MB uses, you may be able to save the money and get the same manufacturer's part number as the OEM from the same manufacturer and qualify to get the sticker. The Glass installer, should know how to do this.

FYI - there is nothing you need to have to “qualify” for a sticker. The stickers are a normal part that is available over the parts counter. The problem is the part gets superseded every several years and changed. When the Chrysler merger took place, the verbiage on the sticker changed from “a DAIMLER-BENZ product” with the signature to “a MERCEDES-BENZ product”. With the introduction of the W211, the stickers for some reason were unique to the W211 and had “Mercedes” in a diagonal script-like font. If you own a pre-Chrysler merger vehicle, the proper one is “a DAIMLER-BENZ” product. Most people don’t care nor do they notice unless you are an enthusiast, but the part numbers are clearly listed on the sticker and that’s all you need to order one from the parts department and if you attempt to order a sticker for your 1983 W123, the parts department will tell you that part has been superseded by another part, and you would get the clear one, or the “Carl Benz” version. The correct ones can be bought from eBay, but I highly suspect these are reproductions, but they are close enough to be nearly indistinguishable and Ineould not hesitate to use one of these over the version that is for us in the know is clearly for the wrong year vehicle. Also, for whatever reason, these are only applied to cars in the North American market.

Indeed, which is why cellular phones and Smartphones have very poor reception inside the W221s. I use a cradle, and Motorola V710 CDMA phone which uses the roof antenna and literally does not drop calls. In an extreme case, I have driven well over 100 miles without an interruption in service or a dropped call.

Yeah, also toll transponders and radar detectors need to be in one of two small windows where there's no infrared film. One is up high to the left of the rear view mirror and the other is low and dead center.
They're roughly 4"x6". Under certain angles you can see them but they're faint.

Yeah, just call the Safelite repair guy that's on all the commercials. Play a soccer game with your kids while they replace it. Heck, you can do it from an app. I'm sure the app asks all the relevant questions.

Have you had one changed my them in an S600 or W221 with Pano roof? I know they know what they are doing on most cars, but the W221 must have some delicate/painted parts removed as well as parts under the hood removed for the HVAC. Not saying they would not do a good job, but I was just curious.

Not affiliated with them other than as a customer, but if you want a decent glass shop in Phoenix, AZ check out Dave's Metro Auto Glass.

I've had mixed results with Safelite and have moved on to a local independent shop. My Designo car with the Pano Roof is still perfect after the Indy replaced my glass two months ago. The owner himself came out to do the work and we swapped stories as he previously owned an S63 and knew the car well.

Did you happen to notice if it was more difficult for your installer to work with the Pano roof car?
Designo's are always interesting to look at. Any pics of interior/exterior?
