Wrong. The W221 S600 will easily handle the W222 S550.
2007 S600: 0 to 60 in 4.1 sec, 1/4 mile in 12.4 sec.
2014 S550: 0 to 60 in 4.8 sec, 1/4 mile in 13.4 sec.
For a base S-class those are still impressive numbers.
The S600 is a torque monster with torque just shy of a C7 Z06. A reliable $1k tune puts torque at 750, 100 more than the Vette.....and HP at 620.

Just a minor correction to your earlier comment, that's all. We wouldn't want our old friend, Badges buying a W222 S550 because somebody on this board gave him some bad info about that car being quicker than his old S600.

LOL Dave! Well, I wouldn't buy an S550 after owning an S600. I actually prefer the body style of the W221 S600. If I can find a a 2012/2013 with low miles I would do the body kit again, etc like I did before. Here's one with 18k miles but I need it to be black on black. https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/invent...177_isFeatured
My bro-in-law told me the other day he can't believe I sold that car...I told him I am kicking myself for selling it. I really do wish I kept it. That was one bad @$$ car...BUT....I'll find another by Spring.

So I kno youguys have all ran the 20" amg reps for a while now... Im back in the boat where i want to change the 19" wheels on the car for the 20" multi spoke amg wheels, Ive been looking for a reasonable set of oems but prices are pretty nuts. I ran the reps on my w221 for almost 3 years w few issues. Should i just run another set of reps on the w222?

A 5+ year old S600 with 19k miles for $47k that originally stickered north of $165k. I'd say that's a damned good deal. And in my area I could add a bumper to bumper warranty to that car for 7 additional years and 75k miles for around $3k. Not to mention, more aesthetically pleasing to the eye from the exterior than the W222.

That said, the S550 is no slouch but that same engine made our SL550 faster than our SL600 even though it felt completely uneventful. A simple ECU tune takes the S550 engine to 540HP/705TQ. Plus the AWD will speed things up 0-60 over RWD.
The W222 S600 actually also has the updated version of the V12 which is more powerful and an actual 6 liter engine (vs 5.5 before). Improved maintenance as I understand (no more coil packs, etc.). Definitely the one to buy over a W221...
MB's new engines are just unbelievable. Power galore. New i6 engines are the best money can buy and leave even the legendary BMW inline sixes in the dust.

Quoted times were from zeroto60times.com. Granted, the 4.1 would take ideal road/race conditions allowing the beast to hook up, which can be an issue with the gobs of torque available from just over idle speed. In fact, the S65 times were almost identical to the S600, proving the trouble hooking up from a dig. AWD in the modern powerhouses makes a world of difference with these times.

There are plenty of cars that can beat the S600 from the line but look at the size of the S600 and the features and the power, even after tuning it. If I want serious speed I'd hop in my over 700rwhp vette and slaughter just about everything on the road..I have trouble hooking up with streets when it's cold but with street radials, it's all over. I'm getting back in to the S600 as my luxury cruiser and the look of it. To be honest, when I see the W222 I have to wait sometimes until I see the back/side of the car to see if it's an S class or another class since they all almost look identical. It's all personal preference...the W222 is nice but to me the W221 S600 with the body kit just looks good to me. Same with the rovers...took a while for the new body style to grow on me...still looks too much like an explorer and doesn't have the unique look that it used to have....all manufacturers are doing this now though...everything is looking alike.

You wouldn't be downgrading going to the W221 S600. It has diamond stitched Nappa leather with suede headliner too. Even my old S600 has the Nappa leather and suede headliner (they still look brand new in my 11+ year old car). But all S600's come with leather wrapped everything, including the dash and doors. That's a very expensive option in the W222 S550.

Since the S600 has gone the way of the Dodo bird in the US, the W222 S600 (MY14-16) is the way to go. Bigger engine, cheaper maintenance but they are still running $20k or so higher than the S550's. As usual, no sport package on those...

Just FYI, 1Bad540's interior is identical to the S600 W222. Nappa leather everywhere (all interior panels, dash, etc.). The exclusive leather was $4400 if I recall, now it's just a bit over $2k. The W222 also has a semi anilin leather interior option which is a step up from the W222 S600 and the W221 S600. The W222 S65 has a nice full leather headliner instead of the Dinamica.

I thought they still had the S600 in the US for 2016 but will check. The benefit on the W222 is also that they have an updated 7 speed transmission able to handle the torque. There is no more standard V12 sold in the US. Even the Maybach 650 is sporting the AMG engine, which makes the car a bargain against the S65

The real bargain is opting for the new S63 vs the S65.....at an $80k price difference. Even though the S65 has gobs more torque, the much smaller 4.0L V8 S63 outperforms it with the 9 speed auto and AWD.
Sadly, in 5 years, you'll probably be able to pick up a $200k S650 for less than $60k with low miles.

I'm not sure what you mean by "standard" V12. The Benz 600's (all iterations) since 2003 have been running a V12 bi-turbo. That still continues with the newer ones....except the displacement has been bumped up a bit. Interestingly, the 2014-17 W222 S65 sedan is a hair slower than the W221 S600 from a dig (probably has to do with traction), and then the S65 starts to pull away slightly at higher speeds. The 6.0L V12 in the 2014-17 S600 only has 13 more hp than the previous W221 S600 5.5L, but torque remained the same. FWIU, new emission standards curtailed the power of the new 6.0 bi-turbo. But I'm sure they are just as tunable as the previous model. There was a substantial difference in power between the W222 S600 and the S65 (around 100 hp). MB just started putting the AMG motors in the 2018 S650 Maybach. But the S650 is so big and heavy that the performance is nowhere near on par with the new S65. The new AMG coupes are where performance really shines.
The real bargain is opting for the new S63 vs the S65.....at an $80k price difference. Even though the S65 has gobs more torque, the much smaller 4.0L V8 S63 outperforms it with the 9 speed auto and AWD.

By standard V12 I meant the old M275 engine in the W221 or M277 engine in the W222. US only offers the AMG engine option (M279) as you stated.
MB originally planned to have the V12 S-Class facelift with an AWD version available. My assumption was to be competitive with the new BMW V12TT that has AWD and sub 4sec. performance but that has been delayed or perhaps abandoned.
You are spot on with the S63 and that M177 engine. Crazy fast with AWD, 9 speed MCT and also easily tunable. We have that in the E63s trim and it is brutally fast with tons of torque. Simple Renntech tune brings that car to 773HP/778TQ. 0-60 in 2.79 sec.

This s550 is super fast, not sure why you would need more power in this type of car but i get it... Love the s65,s63 and 600 all amazing! The 550 is my daily driver and does everything I need it to do. I still have an m3 and a viper if I need someting else.
