2008 S550 4Matic and 2014 E350A Cabriolet

ignition coils

My mechanic says 1 of 8 coils is bad. Q: Should I replace only 1 or assuming the others will go bad, replace all 8?

they are relatively cheap to replace.. If you dont want to mess with it for a while or ever again, just replace them all. If you are lightly mechanically inclined, you can just do them 1 at a time as they may or may not fail.

Depends on the weather

They are pretty easy to do. I would do them all at once and cross it off the list...preventative maintenance. In my S600 I had one go bad but I had to replace the entire side as each side is one single unit as opposed to individual coils like my S550 was.
