Transmission Service

Hello all, I have a 2007 S550 and need some answers. I love the car and it's been great the past 5k miles I've owned it, but want to do some preventative maintenance. I called a couple of places around me to get an estimate for a transmission fluid change and was quoted $800 at a local luxury indy and my local Mercedes dealer didn't even answer the phone. How much should I expect to pay, $800 seems incredibly high and I think I need to get it done considering I have 84k miles and no idea if it's been done before. The transmission shifts fine but I drive the car rather hard. I also got quoted $220 for an oil change at the same place. I panicked the other day because I received this message, but I added half a quart of the recommended oil and it's been fine 1,000 miles later.

just had mine done 2 weeks ago. MB dealers quoted 495 - 599 . There is currently a coupon you can sign up from facebook MBUSA to get $130 off $250+ service (until Dec 31).

Do this!

MB Dealer will (should) drain most of the oil as they empty torque converter......

That indy shop you went to.....never return. That's not only more expensive than a dealer but chances of them doing it properly is very low. There is a quite detailed procedure to do this service on these cars and unless the Indy shop has experience or has serviced this car before they probably wouldn't know.

How many miles on the car? Have you been able to pull the preverious service records from Mercedes-benz?

The photo you posted is a message for engine oil NOT transmission fluid.

I mentioned I inquired about an oil change and I may not have made it clear. I know it’s for engine oil. LOL

I purchased the car from a family friend, it has 84,005 miles now. I have a lot of service records and receipts for almost everything done to the car. I looked through it and didn’t see that it had it’s transmission fluid changed. It’s recommendedt hat it’s done every 40k miles and the car does shift perfect, so I’m hoping it did have that service. I’ve written a few posts about the vehicle here and there on MBWorld.

The last time the car has been serviced it was done at that Indy by the previous owner. I purchased the car with 79,800 miles, and the car had all of it’s spark plugs and a coil pack changed at 79,500 for around $550 at that Indy. The rest was done at my local MB dealer. The Indy has been known for servicing MB, BMW, Jag, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, etc. They do great work, but damn $800 was expensive.

Possible Indicator of shady Indy shop #2

Did they replace the coils just because or because they were bad? There is no reason to replace them "just because" or as a maintenance item.

Spark plug replacement took me about an hour on my S430 and I'm talking 16 spark plugs......I can't imagine S550 is much harder. But the charge for spark plugs and coils parts and labor for $550 sounds about right (actually a bit low if that includes coil parts)

I have the full report, it had a cylinder misfire and check engine light. They replaced everything and the car has been fine since, I was shocked because that price seemed very reasonable for 16 spark plugs and 1 coil pack, but 800 for a tranny fluid change is insane.

One plug and coil pack per cylinder for the M273 motor. M113 has two plugs and one coil per cylinder.
S430AMG was referring to his S430 with M113 motor.

I could be wrong as it's not an itemized receipt, I assumed the M273 had 16 spark plugs like the M113.
