Upgrades and issues

Hi guys,

Yesterday I bought the 4 door sedan, a Mercedes Benz S500 with the V8, 2008 version. I'm very proud of it. I want to make some upgrade to the car. First of all I want to remove the cigarette lighter socket in the center console. How do I remove it?

Second question I got is there any AUX output socket for the car? Where can I buy it?

The third question is that the headrests in the backseat doesn't wanna pop back up when I press the button. Is there any common faults? Any sensors or maybe the button it selfs? They pop down without any problems but upwards is a different story.

1. Remove the cigarette lighter socket? Why?

2. There is no AUX out/in in your car, unless you have the iPod connection in the glove box. The W221 was definitely behind the times in the music connection department. If you have the iPod connection in the glove box, you can purchase a Tune2Air device for less than $50 and gain the ability to stream music wirelessly from your phone or other BT device to your car. If you do not have the iPod connection, you can contact Midcity Engineering (vendor on this board) who has their own device that allows streaming capability. But it won't be cheap. You're SOL if you want to install an original MB iPod connection to your COMAND head unit as they stopped making those years ago and finding all of the necessary parts on the used parts market is almost impossible.

3. Your S500 does not have the ability to raise the rear headrests by the push of a button. The button in yours will only drop those headrests. You'd have to have the rare (for the S500/550/S63) rear seat package (reclining & massaging seats) or step up to the S600 or S65 to get them to go up automatically via motor when the rear seat belts are fastened or by pushing the button by the armrest.

The cigarette lighter socket sucks so I'm going to install 2 USB ports instead. I have done it in all my other cars and going to do it now. I found a video on youtube on how to remove it.

ok, thanks for the info

The easier thing to do is to buy a rapid charging 2 USB plug that you can just plug into the lighter port. You can find good quality ones for under $20 that are flat and only stick out about 1 MM past the edge of the port.

I didn't ask for a easier option since I know my options. All I asked for was some instructions on how to remove the cigarette lighter socket...Don't answer the question if the answer is not relevant to the question!

He helped me with two of my questions. He didn't help me the first question I asked did he? I asked for instruction, I didn't get any instructions just alternatives when I didn't want any alternative solutions...if you ask a question and they doesn't answer the question with relevance then what good are the answer if it didn't answer the question?

A question should have a answer with relevance to the subject the question was based on!

No one owes you any answer. Few people are knowledable on these cars and Dave happens to be one of them. Coming here with an attitude and expecting information is a good way of people to ignore you. Believe it or not noone cares that you just bought a 08 s550.

This is quite a start you're off to on this board and with your new to you car. You're right. I know exactly what you said. Coming on here and asking for help, then popping off because you were offered a viable and better alternative that you apparently have no interest in likely won't get you much help in the future until you have an attitude adjustment. You'll go a lot further here being a nice guy instead of a douche bag.

Adam,

The folks here on this forum all share a common thing...they either have, have had, or considering owning a w221. Some just are here for information. Regardless of the reason, all of us are here to help one another and to give alternatives and options to questions answered. Some of our forum members, Davew68, are very knowledgable and can contribute valuable information. It would be wiser for you to listen to alternatives and be grateful. I agree, that your responses were harsh, and what my father would say were..sophomoric. I can tell you are most likely a bit younger than most, and will mature as time goes on. I am happy that you have a new to you s550, and hope you will enjoy it. I would encourage you to be more humble, and open minded on this forum though, if you want help. Good Luck my friend, and Happy New Year!

Sometimes you can get lucky on eBay, I just picked up the original iPod interface with all of the cables for $125 and a Tune2Air for $60. Installation was plug and play and sounds great.

Never hurts to take advice from people that may know better. Besides, in a public forum, other members will tell you what they think wether you like it or not. You might even end up learning a thing or two.
Like it's pretty non-sensical to disassemble and pull a factory part just to get USB power...
