Fault code - see Service Manual. Help please

Cleared and ran Codes today with help of a mechanic buddy. With the exception of one Code, all seemed to be low voltage related to battery failure a few months back.

However, check engine light came on last Thursday and Friday. Parked the car over the weekend. At start up today, check engine light was gone and is still off, however, the Reader said "see Service Manual" and if I correctly copied the Code it is:

UI40900
MED 17.7 – Motor elec for direct injection 17.7

Car is 2012 S550 4matic. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

It's a 1, not an I, so the code is U1409, the 00 is for special suffix info and isn't needed. If you google that code, it shows as a left front wheel speed sensor missing message. U codes are communication codes, so that makes sense.

If you don't have an ESP light on, you don't have a faulty wheel speed sensor, i'd ignore it.

Thank you sir. No other lights or warnings displayed.

It was the one code that could not be erased - reason?

Going on a 200 mile run Wednesday. Good test drive.

Should have tried Google. No shortage of answers there.

1- Network Problem, 4- MFG - Manufacturer Specific, 0- Auxiliary Emission Controls, 9- 09 Engine Fault Code

Possible it may not clear without a correct scanner. The MB systems are bad when it comes to generic OBD2 tools. The code may be stored in the ESP module or somewhere else, and not clearable from the M/E until it's gone from there.

Yep it's clear a generic scanner has its limits and that is what we used. I sent the VIN and Code to my Dealer. I'm sure the answer be - we need the car, which I can understand. The more I read up on U1409, O2 and catalytic terminology surfaced. Sensors and cats are a Dealer job. We shall see. Road trip Wednesday. Thanks for the help.

PLEASE plug that car into Xentry and quit wasting your time. Generic OBD won't get it. The Chinese sourced setups go for $800 will pay for themselves in a heartbeat. I've had one since 2013 and saved 10s of thousands of dollars not spent dumping money to the dealer--While the cars are OBD compliant, the data Xentry access in 100 fold over a hand scanner. Ping the forum, there's probably someone in your area with one that would help you out.

My 2 cents.
