WARNING-- We have previously seen false claims about an Apple Carplay retrofit which turned out to be a scam. Do NOT send any money to order this product until we are able to see a review from a reputable source. Ideally we can find a member who can visit the company or one of their installers and view the product in operation.

I think you didn’t have to feel offended. Not knowing who you are is not one’s fault, neither is giving others a heads up based on what he’s seen in the past. You two just have different roles on a forum. I certainly appreciate the time from both of you.

Lol, Excuse my poor selection of words. No pun intended. I meant in a positive way. Like a role in sharing information. Back to the topic, if I remember correctly, the screen on w221 is behind a glass or something of that sort. Making it into touchscreen is beyond my imagination. Looking forward to seeing more of it.

Here are some questions you can address in your review:
- What type of screen (IPS, etc) does it use and what's the resolution? Screen model number would help.
- Does it have more than 2GB of RAM?
- What processor model does it run and at what speed?
- What kind of audio processing does it do, what MCU does it have?
- Does it integrate with the COMAND knob or do you awkwardly have to bend forward every time to press the screen?
- Does go on the CAN at all? What functions does it cover?
- What's the COLD boot time?
- What type of heat can it handle before it starts throttling seeing how it only seems to have passive cooling?
- Will it play nice with the stock GPS antenna?
- Does it integrate with the stock reverse camera?
- Does it have video IN?
That being said, I've used Android in my cars for years and years and honestly, short of the improved navigation there aren't many advantages over a well integrated stock system. You usually get crappier sound quality, worse GPS reception (if you don't use the stock antenna), longer boot times and so on.
So, if this works on integrating with the car better, it may be exciting, otherwise meh.

Nobody cares who you are. If you're trying to sell a product or promote it, provide some background info. The market is flooded with Chinese headunits. Reselling crappy Android headunits is not a new business model.

Chill a bit. Who he is does matter to a lot of people. If someone has a long track record of great customer support and solid products then it will matter to many buyers. And, as he said, it's just a sneak preview, so of course all the specs you're asking about aren't out yet.

Sure, I am super chill. I just compiled a list for him to include in his review...maybe also include who he is
I am also slightly confused, is he selling stuff or not?

Well, regardless, I am excited to see how well it works and the aesthetics of it.

That IS an easy install. Will the W221 screen also be that size? I assume all of the functionality that is currently accessed from the screen will be there in addition to the Android stuff?

Yes, I get it, you swapped parts between older and newer cars. Read it. If that's "who you are" that's fine by me. Have you read up on WHO I AM!!! Anywhoooo....
Clarify how you are not selling things when your signature links to your business "CKM Car Design" that specifically sells these units. Is that business yours or not? Are you a vendor on the forum or just linking to your own site selling stuff?
#21
Yeah these units run android and also mirror the stock screen so you can access all that functionality.
If you want to keep the stock screen you could buy a video AUX box and attach any android box or carputer or whatever else you may have in mind. That would be more expensive though and you would have to deal with customizing the software.

Some more questions...
I've seen videos where folks are complaining about metric units vs imperial units, is that something one could configure?
Would the tablet portion still have a usb connector for connecting to a computer and an SD slot for a memory card? I'm thinking of performing tweaks prior to doing the install.
One user was complaining that the artwork of the car didn't match his, would one be able to update the graphics assets on the device? Also thinking prior to doing the install.

Well will NEVER help you out for sure if ever needed....Talk about rude snob.Yeah I do facelifting and and things like comand updates now for 20 years. But you seem to know it all so I guess you will be just fine without any help. And NO there are no links to any shop in my signature.

It would be fantastic to have a touch screen with access to apps and if the screen/tablet was also 4G you could have everything that you need.
