LED Tail Lights

I have a 2007 S550, which has been upgraded with the LED Taillights.

- When were the LED Tails Standard, as of what year? (Or were they possibly even already available as an upgrade in '07?)

- This weekend, my right tail light cracked and I now will need to look for a replacement, assuming/hoping it to be plug in/play???!!!
Can anyone recommend a good replacement brand which can be purchased aftermarket, as I would assume the OEM light to be super expensive.

Thanks very much in advance.

After some more research it appears that the LED's were put on the W221 as of 2009, and apparently the OEM LED will NOT fit/plug in-play on the '07, so an Aftermarket version will need to be purchased.

Can anyone CONFIRM this?

Thank you all.

There are pretty much two methods for getting a LED tailights on a pre-facelift car. One is to use the Facelift taillights and update the SAMs and what not, the other is to buy plug/play aftermarket units. It would be best to confirm which you had before you purchase a replacement.

Thanks very much dlafever, greatly appreciate the input.
As I was not the one installing these LED's on my car, would you happen to have any input as to how to find out if I have OEM or Aftermarket Lights?
I assume there would be a part number stamped on the backside of the light if it was OEM?

Looking at the light from the outside, I think it to be an Aftermarket light. If I can confirm this after removal, does anyone have a good source as to where to purchase replacements, or would eBay be my best friend?

Another question would be if I can hurt anything by not replacing the light immidiately? As there is a crack, I would imagine that water will find it's way inside the light, as the rainy season is right around the corner. Do I need to worry about damaging any electrical wiring in there?

As always, many thanks in advance.

Make sure it is water tight. Run tape or glue over the crack.

I'm not sure how to tell from the outside of the unit, however the connector side of the unit on all of the aftermarket lights I've seen looks ... aftermarket. I doubt you would hurt anything by replacing just one if yours are aftermarket (e.g. plug and play).

Check eBay to see what I mean about this ... there are some good examples there right now of factory tail lights (2010+) and facelift upgrades.

The ones I sell are Oem aftermarket and are good quality. I can get you just one, or a pair. IF you need, just call or text me at 717-319-2100. Don't mind helping out a member.

Ran a bead of clear silicone over the hairline crack. Taped everything off to just expose the crack. Turned out very nice and if one would not know, one could not even tell there is a crack.

Let's hope it will be water tight and will hold up for a bit, until I can afford a new set of LED Tails, graciously offered by Jason B, THANK YOU!

Ordered my LED tails from Jason this morning.
Awesome Guy to talk to, excellent customer service!
I understand that Jason deals with many Auto Parts, and as most of us have more than one vehicle in the family, he might be worth checking out for any parts needs.

Thanks very much Jason, looking forward to receiving my new LED Tails!
