Just bought 2007 S600

Hi All,
I just purchased an 07 S600 with 42k miles. Instead of asking neewbie questions, is there a website or link or thread where I can read up on common issues and problems?

Thanks in advance.

Congrats and good luck. You will need some deep pockets to keep that baby on the road.

S550 4MATIC
Wow, an 07 with 42k miles...what a find!!! Do a search on this forum for S600 and you should see multiple threads relating to the S600. I did a quick search and saw threads about leaks, battery lights, coil packs, as well as common questions. This model has been out for some time so you should find plenty of information. Remember, back in 07 the Maybach was its own vehicle and totally different from the S600, which is why you should find plenty of info on this W221 forum. Congrats on your purchase, and post pictures when you can. Remember what they say, "pictures or it didn't happen"......lol!!

Your response is funny as hell.

Good luck to you. I bought an S550 4Matic last month with 124,000 on the clock.

So far, I love it. It is magical.

As for your car, I am sure that you will have some expenses down the road but the milage is quite low and if it had a good service history that shows it was taken care of, I believe that things will be great with that car! have fun.

I had a 2007 S600 and absolutely loved it until the end of the lease. As smooth and luxurious as any car I’ve owned. Enjoy it and keep up the proper maintenance on it. Lots of threads on the site if you look.

congrats on your find! 42k is low! The thing to look for with such a low mileage car are leaks in the abc suspension components. It seems that driving it more keeps the hoses, lines, valves all lubed and working longer. If you see any abc lights come on, stop the car and check the fluid level and don’t let the motor run if it is low as you could burn out the abc/steering pump if it goes dry. That’s costly to replace. Is the abc fluid green? If not, Have the abc flushed and filter replaced. It should last a long time if maintained. Otherwise, Post some pictures and enjoy the ride!

I bought a 2007 S600 Designo interior from an Embassy in DC last April. Love the car. Finally think I have it dialed in. Needed a radiator, front control arm, and an ABC hose and I put in some Hawk brake pads. Ordered Clark Rupp's upgraded Coil Pack and Voltage Transformer, but have not yet put them in. Now have 56K miles. Also bought an extended warranty with the car (48 months and 50K miles more) for $5800. Car cost $24.5K but it was in really good condition. Ambassador's wheels. Faster than my C5.

Thanks for sharing. There was lots of work done prior to my purchase: Ignition coil pack was replaced in April, front control arms and wheel bearings as well. It also had the ABC suspension service and wheel alignment done in early 2018. It has new brakes, rotors and tires. So from the maintenance side I think I'm covered for a while.

Where did you purchase the extended warranty?

Low mileage does not rule out trouble on these cars. Age seems to be at least as big of a contributing factor as miles. I purchased my '07 S600 with just 24k miles in Nov, 2014. I sold it last December with 48,500 miles. I was only the 2nd owner and that car was babied it's entire life as the first owner was a guy in his 70's who meticulously maintained the car in the San Diego area. I have all of the service receipts for him and I. Almost 100 records going back to new.

Here is a thread you should read. In particular, go to post 65 as it showed the most up to date warranty claims I had. You should expect many of the same issues with yours.

https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...-thread-3.html

You will have an extremely difficult time getting any company that will sell any kind of decent warranty coverage on that car because it is so old. If you do come across one, it will likely be super expensive (probably at least $10k and will not have comprehensive coverage). It seems that most companies cut off offering coverage if a vehicle is more than 7-8 years old. Also, there is enough of a history on these cars now that warranty companies stay away from them due to high costs of repairs, especially older models. I hope you have figured $5-8k in annual maintenance and repairs for that car into your budget. You will likely need at least that much. Lots of things WILL break on your car because it is old. I still had almost 4 years of coverage left on my warranty when I traded it in last December. My warranty was excellent at paying claims, but honestly I was very tired of taking it in every few months for another major repair, so I took the warranty refund for unused time/miles and purchased my GL550.

Amazingly, somebody grossly over-paid for my car on the Bring a Trailer auction site. I figure retail on it at the time in it's near perfect condition was around $24-25k. Enjoy reading through all of the comments. It's best to start at the beginning.

A company out of Dallas (Richardson) Texas called Carchex. https://www.carchex.com/research-cen...s-the-details/ I got the policy through a dealer/broker and he said it was one of the few that would take an older car with lower miles. They refused to pay on an ABC hose but they covered covered cooling fan and all labor for the radiator install. They refused to cover the radiator, but they covered a control arm. Frankly, it doesn't make much sense to me. I am a cynic and i think they take the $5800 premium, divide it by the 4 years term, and pay out $1400 a year and deny, deny, deny until the next annual cycle; and then they rinse and repeat. I decided long ago, I knew it was not a cheap car to operate; it isn't my only vehicle, and I love it dearly. I also use an indy for maintenance oil changes and mercedes OEM filters. I use the dealer for repairs.

I would love to upgrade to a 2010 or newer S65; but I can't find one for a reasonable price with low miles. I found one outside DC, a 2008 S65 with 40K miles and they wanted to get rid of it for $30K. I called and said I would be there in an hour to buy it; and by the time I got there it was already sold to a guy on the phone who gave them a credit card. Very tough car to find.

Congrats! Those are great cars (I've had mine 2007 S600 for a few years now) but either keep about $5000-$8000 handy for unexpected repairs or study this and other forums to do the work yourself or at least be knowledgeable enough to talk with the dealers and mechanics (who typically know very little about S600, so be careful - unless you live in one of the very few places in US where those cars are common). Like you can change the leaking turbo seals yourself for $8 in parts, or you can pay the dealer over $6000 for the labor to do so etc. Good luck!!! (you may need it :-)

Mercedes Benz S600
I bought my 2007 S600 about 10 months ago and during the run up to it and after owning it I became very knowledgeable about them. Feel free to PM me at any time with questions. They are not that expensive if you don't mind using google and ebay for parts and can do some work yourself.

Also, be sure you're buying consumable parts (pads, rotors, filters, wiper blades, etc) from FCP Euro. They have a lifetime replacement on all that stuff, free! I just swapped out an oil filter with them!

Post some pics

I've referenced DaveW68's warranty post several times in different model forums here. It is good reading and I hope it does not scare you, but rather prepares you and others. Now if only Mike5215 was still here we could all talk about pulling the back end out using a tree stump.
