I Hate My Steering Wheel

OK. I admit it. I hate my steering wheel. The very attractive wood is too thin with no grip or thicker spots at the 10 and the 2 positions. The wood is also cold up here in Boston. Very cold.

I have done a bit of research and discovered that changing steering wheels is not necessarily an easy task.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with the steering wheel covers that you can order online that need to be slowly sewn around the wheel. Are there better options than that short of a new steering wheel?

I have this vision. I am not all that handy BUT, I envision taking some tape and thickening the 10 and the 2 by wrapping it a bit. After that, I get a wheel cover and slowly put it on. the result of this Frankenstein will be a great leather feeling wheel that is a bit thickened from the tape underneath it.

Does this make even a bit of sense or do I need to just sit down and be quiet. By the way, to all the folks who answer my questions here, I thank you because I am way out of my league here.

Happy hols all.

I wrapped the old beat up grey steering wheel in my W211 with a Chinese black leather cover and added a used OEM airbag from eBay to match.
Might eventually swap it out for an AMG sport wheel but for now this works fine.
The factory heating option is nice too, though I rarely get to use it living in Florida.

I would sell my soul for a heated steering wheel.

You double checked under the wheel and you don't have the heated steering wheel option, right?
Also, even the wooden steering wheels have the leather grips around 9 and 3 o'clock and they get thicker in that area (not 10 and 2 but still).

Hey Bobitza, we both have the same year. 2008!

I am assuming that you have rear will drive? I am up in Boston and need the 4Matic. Not all that often, but when you need it, when the snow hits, you need it.

Mine is black. Looks like it was made yesterday inside and out. 126,000 miles. How many miles do you have on yours?
