Looking for a new distronic for my S500

Hi guys,

I recently bought a used 2006 S500 W221 (normal version, not 4matic). Amazing car, amazing engine. Only 80.000 km's (real because the car comes from a close friend).
Despite this he told me that the distronic unit is dead. Apparently the dealership tried to update the distronic and the unit became bricked and is not longer working. I suspect they did the wrong update and its their fault its bricked. I know nothing about car electronics so I really can't argue with them.
I started to search online for a replacement because they asked for 3000€ for a new one. I found some options on eBay DE but they don't refer the part number I've been given by the dealership.

They gave me this reference: 2215405701

In eBay DE I can only find the following:

https://www.ebay.de/itm/A2215404745-...vlys:rk:1:pf:0
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Mercedes-S-K...bV4Q:rk:2:pf:0
https://www.ebay.de/itm/MERCEDES-S-c...u0p1:rk:4:pf:0
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Mercedes-W22...n1LW:rk:5:pf:0
https://www.ebay.de/itm/Mercedes-W22...qI-5:rk:6:pf:0

Only one of them mentions my part number but in the photos it doesn't show the label where the part number is. Others don't show the part number in the label but do refer it in the item description. I believe that there are differences between the parts and maybe none of them fits my car but I'm trying to get some help to get this clarified.
Can someone please explain to me the differences? All of them mention a S Class W221 but I really can't figure if I'm looking at the right parts or not.

Any help is appreciated!

All of those listings do not match # given found plenty of listings simply searching 2215405701 if this is indeed correct part #. If you want post or PM VIN I can confirm. Note, upon install part will need to be checked for current flashware using MB diagnostics.

Here are your compatible part #s with 5701 being current. You can purchase any one of these used however, dealer or independent with MB diagnostics will need to check that flashware is current. When EPC lists part replacement as shown in this capture this sometimes indicates modification due to known problem(s) therefore IMHO I would shop 2215405701 as suggested by dealer.

Thank you for this. I was in need of a clarification.
I just went downstairs and checked the part myself. As I suspected, it shows references from parts I found out on eBay DE. The dealership gave me latest update on the part as you suggested.

Should I keep hunting for the one with the reference that the dealership gave me? Or should I take the chances and get an older model?

Thank you!

either way, get it working. I LOVE mine, especially in traffic jams on the highway
