2007 S550 4Matic
To 4matic or not to 4matic!?!?

Hey all, you have been a great resource for me so far, so thank you!!

Im finally deciding on another S550 this week and I WAS deafest in staying with a 4matic. However, I have found one i love, minus the 4matic. I live just outside of Chicago, which is why I was kind of wanting the 4matic. However, I also have an Escalade and a Range Rover sport that I would drive in any snow/ice.

Those of you that have driven both, I’m curious to your feedback regarding the necessity of 4matic or those without it, do you prefer non 4matics??

The best or nothing
I prefer 4matic. Unless you find an ABC S550.

If you have alternatives to use in inclement weather, I would go RWD myself as I prefer the driving dynamics. Especially if I found a car that really interested me. Winter/snow tires are the most important factor, or so I'm told, no snow in San Diego haha.

Both my W221 and W222 are 4Matic. With that said, I do live in NJ so it does come in handy. I have had RWD cars in the past and proper winter tires in most winter conditions honestly did the job for me. Granted, if you wish to explore the north pole, then of course 4Matic with some winter tires is the ultimate combo, even though it may be overkill. As far as driving dynamic, its an S class. The only dynamic I have these cars for is pure luxury and comfort. Not sure I would be able to tell the difference, outside snowing conditions of course.
