Unhappy W221 Comand malfunction

Hello all,

I have a 2007 S500 and have been having trouble sorting out audio issues for the past two years. Everyt ime I turn the car on, comand will boot up the way it should, however after anywhwere between 10 seconds - 1 minute, the screen blacks out and reboots. It constantly does this and got so annoying that I disconnected the comand unit and use a portable speaker in the car. Really sucks that I can longer enjoy the music from the Harman/Kardon system it came equipped with.

If anyone has experienced this issue and has been ale to fix it, I would immensely appreciate your help.
Thanks!

Could be a bad hard drive but you need a diagnostic to get a clearer picture.

Thanks for the speedy response Phil

I took it for diagnosis regarding the B4/9 sensor. No oyher codes appeared, the mechanics told me their system was not able to pick electronic faults. Will a better diagnosis tool do the trick? Or is there a more specific diagnosis you know of?

Star/Xentry is what they use at the dealer, an essential tool for these cars.

I have a whole COMAND unit for you for $350 (includes shipping to lower states). The only thing is the DVD player skips discs but the COMAND it'self works with no issues.
You can swap the dvd player portion from the old one you have.

Sounds like either an internal fault or a power issue to me. The Comand HDD holds the navigation part of the software...the unit works fine without a hard drive at all...except for the navi part, clearly. The B4/9 sensor is a suspension sensor I believe.

Thanks. Does the comand system have to be for a particular car though? For example, if yours is a S600 Left hand drive and mine is a 500 RHD, will your system be compatible in my car?

Yes, I believe the command has to be programmed to your car. I can suggest getting your command unit repaired, Becker Autosound in Saddle Brook, NJ repairs these units.

Try bypassing the VCS unit in the trunk.
