Need to get the C4 SDS, but which laptop?
I apologize since I know this has been discussed many times, but I'm still somewhat confused. I can find the C4 easily on eBay or other places like this: https://www.obd2tool.com/goods-334-M...BoCxW0QAvD_BwE
However it seems that the Dell D630 is the most widely recommended laptop, and it is a rather ancient beast. Finding a good one has been challenging. I know some are sold with Lenovo hard drive, also.
In the above link, they say the hard drive will work in any laptop?? Then of course, there are options to buy a C5 or a C6 mulitplexer.
Just way too many options for the uneducated buyer. I need to keep the cost down, and buying the all inclusive package for close to $1000 isn't going to fly with the wife unit.
Also, the last I heard Washington is the only state that cannot buy from Ali Express. I'm not sure if that has been resolved or if there is an easy way around it.

The ideal setup is Xentry Passthru as the software and a Tactrix OpenPort J2534 device. With this setup you can use any modern laptop with Windows 10.

I ordered a refurbished Dell D630 today for $70. Should be fine for my purposes. Now on to the C4 multiplexer...

Just my input. High quality C4 clones(or any clone C5 or C6) are really hard to find. Last year I ordered and payed for 4 high quality C4's. Within 3 months 3 of them had failed. The one that is still around today, has issues communicating with older cars. If you are looking to use Xentry/DAS without online programming/coding you can go with Xentry Passthru. It can work with most J2534 devices but it is limited to CAN communication protocol which is most vehicles 2006 and up.
