2011 S550 hard downshift

Hi guys. I recently bought a 2011 S550 4Matic with 102,000KM. Had it inspected by an indy, which passed, and it didn't throw any codes. As luck would have it, on my way home I was decelerating (not yet braking) going around 25km/h on a small uphill incline and upon downshift felt a hard "nudge". I get home and do a little digging to come across this thread here: https://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w...metimes-2.html. The symptoms outlined in this thread are exactly what I experienced. I've gone on to read in other subforums some horror stories of people having to replace the transmission/valve body (some just to find the issue is still present even with warranty replacement).

A few questions I'd be thrilled to have sorted
  1. Is this common in W221s? It seems much more prevalent in other subforums than this one?
  2. Is this something that's going to get worse and require replacement valve body/transmission?
If the consensus is that there wouldn't be much long term damage and this is just a "quirk" I can probably live with that. But if I'm in for a world of hurt in the near future, I'd rather cut my losses and try to sell the car now. I paid $22k CAD and don't really fancy paying another 30% of that for a replacement transmission 10k kilometres down the line. Thanks in advance for any guidance you guys can provide.

My understanding is that 4matic cars weren't affected by this issue because they use different Tranmissons than RWD cars. In addition, Daimler had worked out all the issues with these cars by the time the 2010 models came out. I would start with a transmission service. These cars need a fluid and filter change every 40,000 miles. If you don't know if it has been done recently, or ever, have it done ASAP.

Mine is a RW but i had the same issue which a software update fixed. As stated above 1. Transmission Service 2. Update TCU. If that does not work then you might have to dig a little deeper.

Good luck with it.

This is exactly what started happening to mine about 6 months ago.
I use to get the 'Drive to workshop' msg as well but havnt had that for a few months.
At the moment now its like when i let go of the accelerator pedal and then coast for a little and speed drops down and go to re accelerate i feel the small kick/nudge 70% of the time and yes towards a uphill makes it worse.

Cant drive the car comfortably anymore as you feel like something is going to break if you push it more as its about to kick/nudge :/
