w221 vs w222 which should I get?
I have a 08 s550 4matic and i'm looking to replace it next year with ether a 12-13 s550 or 14-15 s550 (both rwd).
Questions about the 12-13:
1.whats the fuel economy difference with the m278 vs m273
2.what features did they add in 2012 from 2010
Questions about the 14-15:
1. Do you really have to spend $100 for a wiper blade with magic vision control
2.whats the real world fuel economy
3.Is the interior quality better than the w221 and how
4. what kind of smart phone integration is there
5. whats the best spare tire solution
6. can you get a 100k plus mile descent example for less than $30k
7. how does burmester compare to hk
8. any common issues so far

I have a 2012 S550 with the M278 Engine.
I do love the engine as it has a lot more power then the m273 and my fuel economy varies. In daily driving (mostly city) i get around 17mpg (measured by amount of gas in tank, not the computer) but on long cruises i have done 24mpg as well which i think is pretty good for a car this heavy.
As far as features goes....the 2010 is already a facelift so it has the upgraded command system but other than that i do not believe the is much difference between the 10 and the 12/13.
If you get a 2012 make sure it was built after Jan 2012 so it will have the upgraded timing chain components. If you are tempted by one before that build date then make sure you listen to a cold start and make note of chain rattle. If you decide then to buy it have the newer check valves and upgraded tensioner's installed. I have done mine and its not too difficult if you are mechanically inclined.
For the W222
Yes...the wiper blades are expensive since they have tiny holes in them where the water comes out so they are a lot more difficult to make. Aero makes a set of 2 for $100 so you do not have to buy oem. I do not know how good they are but i have used aero on my S55 and currently on my W221 and they are good.
The drive train is virtually the same so the mpg is going to be very close to the 12/13. The 14+ is marginally lighter but i do not believe it makes a lot of difference. The 9 speed tranny didn't go in til 2018 and neither did the M176 Engine.
I test drove a 2015 S550 and i think the interior is of the same quality but it does look nicer and more up to date. The cabin also was a bit quieter then my 2012. It did not drive as soft as my W221 which is a good thing. I think the Comfort setting is too soft and the Sport to rough in the W221. The W222 felt better.
I cant speak to 4 5 and 6.
The Burmester stereo is WAY better then the Harman Kardon. Much clearer and stronger bass and way bigger stage. I have also heard the high end version of the Burmester and it is awesome. I will try to find a car with it but even the normal Burmester version is way better then the Harman Kardon.
I am looking to get a W222 sometime in the future and it will be a 15 or 16.
