What Is This Plastic Piece on the Front Accumulator??

I have a 2008 s600 and just received my order for the front ABC accumulator (2213270215). Anyone know what the white plastic piece on top is for? My order arrived all banged up and the plastic piece broke in half. I looked thru WIS and couldn't find any mention of it. Please see the rather large pic below....Thanks

Jeff

I’m not positive but I think that plastic piece is only there to protect the threads during shipping.

He’s correct. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago. Remove it before installing, you’ll see that the old one doesn’t have one when you remove it.

As mileage increases (>100,000 km / 62,000 miles) the gas pressure in the pulsation damper can decline meaning that the full damping effect may no longer be available. Common indication humming/howling noises can be heard from underfloor area from idle up to approx. 2000 rpm particularly noticeable at approx. 1400 rpm.

To echo what Konigstiger said....I Purchased the car 6 months ago with 115k miles. The back shocks were not as soft as they should be (over bumps). You literally feel like you are sitting on a wood plank when sitting in the back . I don't have any issues with the front yet, but will replace anyway as I am doing the back. After that, I will be replacing the pulsation dampener on the ABC/power steering pump. Naturally, Pentosin fluid will be replaced along with filter. Doing this mostly because I get the sense that the car was not looked after the way it should have been, I have no confidence that the ABC system was maintained properly.

Is this a similar thing with damper on the E class with SBC ? My fathers one at 107k miles makes noises I never remember being as loud as they are now. I was trying to look for the age to die count but my snap on thing doesn't show this value ?

On the W211 when the damper is going out the system will set a code for it due to it not being able to hold the necessary pressure. This should be covered under the new extended warranty for W211/W219.

thanks for the info. So they can need to be replaced…. UK mkt customer always pays. I wrote to our version on NHTSA to say these things are a little interesting - they told me to go away - I wrote to Mercedes they said go away

The ABC system is actually quite reliable when maintained. It does need new green pentocin fluid and a new filter every 20K miles or it will seek revenge on your wallet.
