Need New Windshield

Fletcher Jones Mercedes told me to definitely not buff the windshield as it will further damage it. Makes it impossible to drive towards the sun and at night.

It was discovered that my neighbors decomposed granite was found beneath my windshield wipers because his gardener uses a leaf blower on it each week. Thats what caused the horrible scratches when I used the wipers. Apparently the same has happened to my wifes car.

Get a windshield from keyes mercedes in Sherman Oaks for $800 genuine part and have it installed on your local indie. That should be within $1100.

Safelite didn't have OEM windshields when I had them replace mine. I had to give up the heat insulating / IR feature. The only other feature you show that I have on my car is the automatic high beams, which still work.

Someone with more knowledge will have to chime in to clarify if the other features you mention are part of the windshield or just the sensors that mount to the windshield behind the rear-view mirror.

I've replaced a number of windshields over the years on various cars, because of rock chips and cracks. I also have Geico and I am in Cali. I have used Safelite in the past, but always requested dealer glass. Geico covered pretty much all of them. I think I had to pay extra out of pocket for one, because the car was several years old and there was cheaper aftermarket glass available, but it was only like $400 extra for the glass. I just did one on my '19 C63S in September. My dealership has their own factory trained glass techs, so all was done in house with factory glass and recalibrating the cameras. Don't have heated glass, but Geico covered the factory glass, installation and calibration. Was around $1400 covered under comprehensive and I only had to pay my $100 deductible. For many of these cars with a bunch of tech in the windshield there is no cheaper aftermarket glass, so I'm surprised Geico is not covering the entire thing. Are you sure they know about the heated windshield etc. Doing it at the dealership required me to submit the invoice for reimbursement, but the process is straight forward. Took about 10 days to process and then the money was instantly deposited to my account via my debit card. In the past I've always gone through a glass shop like Safelite or the one the dealership contracted out to. They can bill the insurance directly and get the supplemental charges approved, but I really liked how my MB dealership is handling everything in house to ensure it's done right on an only 1 year old car. I do have to bring it back, though, because I noticed a bubble inside of the rain sensor. Doesn't seem to affect the wipers, but I want it corrected. I'll have them take care of it during the next service.

I suppose your car is quite a few years old. I know Geico pretty much covers factory glass during the first 3 years as the car is considered new. Afterwards they only cover like replacement if available, but as I said, I've made the experience that for many cars with cameras etc. there is no aftermarket glass because the car manufacturers have very specific quality requirements to ensure the assistance systems etc. work correctly, so Geico should cover the market cost for replacing a heated windshield on an S Class.

Ask safelite whether the new windshield will be from sungate. If yes then there is a chance it will be OEM.

Geico's glass department is saying the aftermarket glass I can get for $200 out of pocket at Safelite is the exact same windshield as the OEM likely made by the same manufacturer of the OEM, only difference is the Mercedes sticker. The dealer says thats not true so I dont know who to believe.
Yes, there are only so many glass manufacturers and aftermarket glass is often the same glass just w/o the logo. However, I've heard of cases where the optical quality is noticeably worse than OEM and also sometimes there are fitment issues leading to leaks. Insurance companies go by NAGS (National Auto Glass Specifications). If they have aftermarket glass listed for your car, then that's what the insurance covers. However, I have a strong feeling that they don't understand that you have a heated windshield, for which likely there is no NAGS replacement. My gut feeling is that Safelite will show up with aftermarket glass and then discover it is the wrong glass, because of the missing heating elements. It wouldn't be the first time. This can work in your favor, because Safelite then has the pull to get the correct glass approved. With Safelite you can make an appointment at one of their locations or you can make an appointment for a mobile installer to come to your house. You can also just go to whatever glass installer you want. In California the insurance companies can't force you to use their approved shop. If your dealer outsources the actual installation, find out who they are outsourcing it to and go directly to them and let them deal with Geico. If your dealer doesn't use an external shop, then find a good one in your area and go there. But the point is you don't have to use Safelite.

always go with Merc genuine screen

many others seem to be softer and in 2 years and 10k miles, you get the same road debris inflicted pit marks the genuine one manages to keep at bay for 10 years and 100k miles
then you get issues with Merc's patented bonding of the weather / wiper panel trim fixing that sits along the bottom of the screen, with pattern ones using double sided tape and often the fitter wrecks it
then the bottom corners may not be the same shape as aforementioned trim and it doesn't fit right
then the rain sensor may not work well (even after calibration to the car, as may any other cameras you have)
and cut-outs in the IR (pink coating) bit may not be the same number or same locations

$3000 is cheap for one of these for the high end ones - non genuine screen negatively impacts the used car value in some markets (can even be safety concerns with non genuine)

its a $900 for a ford focus basic one these days - there's a lot of tech and screen fitting time involved. My local merc dealer always has ones waiting to be picked up every day. Bloke fitting mine thinks is quite common - does one a week on the 221's
