not sure I believe the bit about the cable.... the old cars NTG3.0 circa 2007 can cope with a lightening adaptor using the old 30 pin cable

so why would an MMI lead with the plug they forgot about when the world went normal not work (when everyone went to a fully functioning USB socket)

https://configurator.mercedes-benz-a...er_A0038270904

that would infer they are incompetent and write random standards and ad hoc software and have no idea what they are doing????

So I have no way of playing videos from an external device in an S-Class? unbelievable how bad this comand is
So I have no choice but to buy an Android radio for the W221 so that I can use normal entertainment in 2020, right?

so some got a video connection via the nasty yellow thing. Where you didn't get things to work near the start of the post here COULD depend upon the bit you have bought.

you can get 3.5mm phono in more than one variety

basic with two connections = mono sound
three connections = stereo for headphones
four connections = stereo and a mic (used to be for a headset on a PC or old nokia phone with a mic half way down the wire) thus you could use the mic connector as a nasty video connection the yellow garbage

so did you buy a stereo connector to the MI or a video MI connector lead ?

This I expect is audio on the 3.5mm phono and video VIA the 30 pin old ipod connector.... IT MIGHT work in conjunction with using a genuine Apple lighting adaptor (fakes often don't work) but if everything else is struggling who knows

that box is super rare..... and in the youtube clip you can see another cable input !!!! so I think the cable for video would plug in the box and maybe wired video then works (not watched the end yet) the advert from comand online is a company I know that should know exactly what they are talking about

Keep in mind the video will only work if the vehicle is stationary. As soon as you start moving the screen with video will go dark. You'll need VIM bypass module if you want to have video working when the vehicle is moving.

thanks for the advice.
Before I buy unnecessary new cables, I read that if you have a rear view camera installed at the factory, the VIDEO AUX port no longer works because it uses the same connection.

Can anybody confirm this?

thanks

you know if you are really keen.... you can swap to an android head unit, its all molested by google drivel but some like the modern capability

can't confirm, re your question....it would seem utter madness that they did that …. but then again its a Mercedes...…

do you have TV, never tried but mine has aux video in and out.... maybe that's what the video aux switching was really for ???

but people make toys that might get around single input if that's how they really built it ... pricey though

those are all OLD kit

the later way ( I guess with an add on box that gets around a risk IF there's only one video aux input on the back of the unit …. ????)
