W221 amplifier replacment

MBWorld Fanatic!
As far as the fan direction goes - it doesn't necessarily mean that it's a design issue. The cooling could be designed to blow air in. The fact that it doesn't have a filter though is definitely an issue. Next time I have the trunk apart I will drill out the hole and install a larger fan with a dust filter. We should do some temp tests with air blowing in and out, to know for sure.
Temperature wise - some components run hot without issues. Without checking the datasheet for the specific components it's hard to say if it's out of spec or not.

Hello together,
I’m new here and from Germany.
I bought a W221 with a broken Logic 7 Amp..
Is there a solution for the volume problem with the genesis amp?
This is a thing I can’t do without with it.

I would expect its more about chips getting too hot unsoldering themselves from the circuit board
its a HP laptop speciality - no BS if your laptop cuts out take the back off and "reflow" the chip solder with a blow torch to melt it back on - it works I've done it - its great as then can claim you abused it not they designed it with this feature

So no one figured out how to adjust the volume?
The Amps in Germany are used around 700€, sometimes even more and if the Genesis Amp would work fine that would be some serious savings..

until someone attempts to flash the genesis amp with Merc software we'll never know
the fact something happens and you get noise suggest its mostly compatible -
does the radio work correctly ?
I like to understand why anyone thinks the genesis amp would be any more reliable ?

Ok hoping someone else can help here.
op seems to have ghosted us.
Everything was exactly plug and play BUT
There us now no volume control (as OP stated)
And no antenna pickup of stations.
Here is the picture OP posted and is the MB amplifier.
Original MB amp
Here is the replacement Hyundai.
i plugged in the black/purple (assumedly the OP did not)
And the yellow/curry?
The plug on the far right of MB does not exist on the hyundai
Hyundai amplifier with MB wiring plugged in
They all go towards this device here
If anyone can solve the no volume control/no antenna pickup you will be a LEGEND..
I bought the Hyundai amplifier from ebay for 80$ USD.
Mb was 800-1000.
and a rebuild was 400 with core.
So if you're good with wiring HMU and we can solve this hopefully!

So did the Genesis Amp work for you?

if you read all the posts - you lose the volume control - it will make a noise

audio - with no volume control
but a recent post describes some odd interaction where it some movement of vol is possible in certain conditions - not when driving
from MKnightMD Here is what I have noticed. I can increase the volume by turning it up, turning off the audio, and restarting it. That is the way I have done it. Haven't really noted any issues with Nav and such, so you are correct in that there is some adjustability. There is just no on-demand real time volume control with the OEM knob as we are accustomed to with the OEM amp.

Just spent $1600 on a new amp from MB. And it wasn't even new, as only "reman" amps are available now, with the -80 at the end of the part number. What happens when MB stops supplying reman units? I'd buy another as a shelf spare, but at 1600 bucks no thank you.

what was the diagnosis for swapping the amp?
Any MOST setup can go down if ANY device on the network gives up
So if you have Sat Radio, DAB or TV you can loop them out and see where u r
The Amps die, its a fact but its not the only bug
The harddrive in the Comand dies, especially on the later NTG3.5 setup (that's std failure mode)
A replacement or repaired amp could be made dead, sold second-hand dead (highly likely as they all die) or fail on first start up
A dead amp in its designed in normal failure mode, allows the MOST to function and the Comand unit to toggle all features and all modules - but on LM, MW, or FM the radio station numbers / text is missing (but all other background display is normal) and there is ZERO sound anywhere from any module or feature (but it can fail on / off for 6 months before stopping permanently)

I even bought a new TV module. Nothing. Kookiemuncher said buy a Hyundai amp. It's plug and play. This is a lie! It won't work!

I just bought the amp from a 2010 Genisis, Confirmed it does play audio on aux however I have noticed I can turn the volume down if I Turn volume down > Press Mute > Unmute = Volume Will turn down.
Same process for volume up… HOWEVER it will not turn up all the way it only turns up to about 70% . When you press mute it will turn up all the way briefly before muting so you can hear the clear difference I will try to post a video for you guys .
I want to figure out this volume control so bad. If possible even just add a volume knob directly to the amp . I’m trying to figure out if volume is controlled by the fiber optic lines or via the pin out on one of the connectors going into the amp. Please don’t let this thread die or what’s so much potential to save all w221 owners money.
