I bought a 2001 S 500 two weeks ago and it ran like a dream up until a few days ago. I was getting off the freeway after a 20ish min drive and the last turn before I got to a friends house the check engine light came on. I got to the house turned it off and figured I’d check it later. There was a faint smell of gas when I got out. When I went to start it later that night it cranked like normal then crack. You heard metal against metal and the car stopped trying to start. We tried to turn the key again and saw smoke so we stopped. The smoke was from a shorted started. When we pulled the starter out the whole nose was broken into 3 pieces. We got a new one from AutoZone, threw it in, tried to start the car and it cranked properly a few times then crack again. We pulled that starter out and it was cracked like the last one. Something keeps breaking my starter and idk what. The flywheel looks fine from what I can tell and the starters were installed properly. I’m not sure what to do at this point. The codes that popped up seem irrelevant but were PO303, PO715, PO700, PO150, PO130. And regarding the codes I already changed the conductor plate which was cracked, because of the code and for some reason I thought that wasn’t letting my car start.
