s class front window not working....w221 model ,2006
if in the UK and anywhere near Reading Berks go to Star motor services at caversham - you won't find a better Merc garage anywhere in the UK - its 20 mins work to do both doors (you should do the rears too) including plugging it in and turning the car around to go home
should have been done under warranty 9 years ago - but ALL main dealerships are useless and incompetent
you probably want to read the post about making your clock work again https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...-issues-5.html
ten years back there were few cars that have vast quantities of software and modules, and buggy software was not really known about. So it was all held and managed in the dealer diagnostic tools with regular updates (where the garage could be bothered to maintain their equipment).
Manufacturers moved away from this all in one offline idea around 2012, previously you could just do what you want (but of course using today means you are stuck with old potentially buggy out of date fixes - so a risk to do it, unless can confirm it was last update they made). Then along came cars like the 221 with every car being unique, and with complex individual config for half of the up to 62 possible modules that may be on the car - now the garages were messing it all up. Poor tool development, bad training, interesting records at the factory for the set up, low voltage during programming, and complex cars no one understood meant the few garages that did updates often broke them and scared themself away for maintaining cars correctly for evermore.
The tools and technology improved, but then we got fakes out there and people that shouldn't were now playing, so with cars not set up correctly or with wild performance enhancements, we had safety and security risks, plus a loss of revenue stream for the main dealers - so they pulled the software from the tools. It moved to a server with online authorisation and the actual file came down the wire - but that was slow and with all dealers trying, it became way too flaky.
So in 2019 each legit dealer / indy garage setup was swapped out and now all the software sits on a local garage based server, its kept up to date over night with everything encrypted. Merc only allow its use during an online session asking why a garage is doing the work, unlocks the file per use, does the reconfig as required, and confirms if successful during continuous comms back to home.
SCN isn't perfect, they re checked my original rear SAM and between 2019 and 2021 they found other SCN config they'd missed out - yet the software update came out in 2010 !!! so potentially messing up cars for 10 years !!!
an example of the sort of playing children do for BMWs
you put Rolls Royce bongs on the parking sensors
you put the alpina gearbox change points on you're 2ltr tractor
then the real hero's put the M diff to 100% lock up, not fully understanding it becomes death trap above 70mph and will probably snap the drive shafts below that if you try and go round a corner
currently they are working hard to enable burn-outs, as they've yet to find where BM left the anti children mode software - it still brings in the ABS when you try to do full throttle with the brakes jammed on - but of course for public roads these PS5 junkies just interrupt the fluid reaching the rear brakes - so its all good....
