Cats Stolen, what’s my best option?

Cats Stolen, what’s my best option?
Hello all,

I’m new here and new to Mercedes Benz. I recently got a 2008 S550 5.5L from an auction as I always loved the look and tech of these things. Unfortunately the cats were stolen which obviously triggered CEL. The prices for OEM cats are stupid expensive and I’m reaching out in hopes I have an alternative route. How can I make the exhaust complete again without a CEL? I’d rather not do a full aftermarket exhaust. Basically fill in the void where the cats were. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

With Xentry/DAS, There are an option to turn on/off lamdard control of the ECU and I think with this option off then you can bypass cat converter but I never try.

Would I be able to just buy a set of aftermarket high flow cats, put back the o2 sensors up and downstream and back into the resonators? Or is there something else going on with the OEM cats? Thanks for the response!

You might consider a used OEM set from a salvage yard and have your muffler shop install them. Try this site..

Thanks, seems they are pretty hard to find. Didn’t come across any. Why wouldn’t aftermarket cats work?

I emailed these guys over a year ago and told them I thought I might need new CATs, but they talked me into their diagnostics and I found a leak instead. Seem like very honest and straightforward dudes. I have no idea what their prices are, but they do list cats for the '08 S550 (not sure if yours is 2WD or 4MATIC.)

Thank you, these are the same brand over at Rockauto,I can't seem to locate the other side. They do not offer pricing as they are the manufacturer. I'll keep digging and see what comes up.
