Transmission whirring noise and failure

Alright so i have encountered another issue i was driving and i started hearing a load whirring noise as i was pulling over to check it out . The car fell out of gear into neutral and i got a engine code saying incorrect gear ratio. I put it in park and back in drive and drove it carefully back home. Drove it a bit more to see what was going on and it kept falling out of gear until eventually it wouldnt go into gear or move at all. Luckily i was in my block just to test it and towed it back home. I will order the tool to check fluid but any tips or similar experience stories are appreciated thank you.

Sorry to hear. My transmission failed recently also on my 2007 S600 now with 80K miles. Had codes for very low fluid and this after a flush and filter change at Mercedes less than five months ago. I think it was under filled but I can't prove it. Warranty company sent out an adjuster who looked at the codes and paid for the transmission but not the Torque Converter. I wanted a new TC also so I paid for it. Total bill including install about $9K. Warranty paid just under $5K. But I love the car. Indy installer requested I return after 500 miles of driving to check the fluid to make sure. Dealer never did that! Car now runs really well.

the V12 gearbox needs a rebuild every 20k miles - its a normal feature on this model if you operate the throttle pedal
