After driving for 20+ minutes this message comes on. I assume the sensor is just dead and needs to be replaced. New tires were put on recently. Does the driver side rear wheel need to be removed to replace this?
When you had tires replaced did they replace sensors or simply move old to new tires? 'Normally' a shop would install new sensors if this is the case new sensor may need replacement or system needs to be re-calibrated this is why I suggested have them revisit - you're call.
It was $27 plus shipping. VDO is a manufacturer of OEM parts for many car companies, so I chose that brand as they are known quality.
Also after they installed it, I jumped on the highway for about 10-15 minutes and the car then turned the light off and I was able to go into the system messages and tire pressure settings and tell it to use the new values as standard. Been a month now and no more tire light and I've put close to 2000 miles on it since then running out to CA and back.
On my car when tires were installed, they didn't replace the sensors as they are quite pricey in addition to the tires. They told me they remove them, put a new o-ring/seal in the stem where it mounts to the wheel to prevent leak, and then re-assemble. The tires get replaced but the sensors just get a new seal otherwise you'd be adding an additional $200-300 on top of tire cost.
