Ideally I'm looking for some kind of handheld device that can give codes and comes with a glossary of what those codes mean. Thanks in advance.

 

for me I'm using Autel maxiAP200 it’s good and cheap and it can read code and tell you what’s wrong and it can show you live data almost for everything, also it can erase abs and traction control code and check engine and air bag light .

 

Thanks, it's only $70 on Amazon which is not bad. Does this tool give you specifics, like will it tell you that say ignition coil #4 is bad, instead of saying that you have a bad ignition coil?

 

yes it tells you which one is misfiring also it gives you a possibility to search the code via google to check it online and for the electronic parts it shows you if they need a calibration or if there is a fault or an open circuit

The only down side for me that it will give a free access for one brand for free other brand you will need to buy access for them ,

for example : when you register your account on the app for the scanner and you chose the car brand you own is Mercedes and you needed to scan a Toyota it will ask you to buy access for Toyota cars for almost 28 USD per brand , when you buy access to any brand it will be able to scan all the code for any model from that brand ,

but for the price of the scanner and what it do ,i can’t complain about that 🌝
