When Your Lower Control Arm Needs Replacing

This was the condition of my passenger side lower control arm prior to replacing it with genuine Mercedes part.
I was experiencing squeaking i.e. my car sound like an old buggy going down the street. I originally sprayed some lube in the boot which silenced the noise but the ride was rough over bumps. I entertained the idea of just replacing the boot of the ball joint but the ball joint was work and wound up replacing both lower control arms. I also replaced the bushings in the thrust arms since the rubber was cracking in both of them thought the ball joint still had live in it, the boots were intact with no significant play in the ball joint. The significantly improved the sound and feel over bumps as prior to the change I would hear a loud thud when hitting a bump or NYC pot hole. If you here squeaking, the arms more than likely need replacing as well as the bushings for the thrust arm or the entire arm if the ball joint is worn.
