The pick set will come in handy here too although I believe you can release the wire with a safety pin or small paper clip. Just make sure you put them back into the right slots.
I appreciate your reply. However, can you explain this to me like I'm in kindergarten? From my photo, you use the pick set to release the three wires without removing the housing, hence not breaking the housing? I thought about this overnight, and it would be great to have a solution to this problem, as sensors are cheap, and there are a bunch I could potentially replace on my car, if only I could get around the crumbling plastic problem. I'm going to watch some ChrisFix videos this morning on auto wiring to try to educate myself a bit.

He's saying once the clip breaks you'd have to replace the plug, by swapping the wires/pins over. And I don't think you are going to win the battle against brittle plastics that are heat aged.

Service Campaign Expired

I have the Service Campaign Bulletin 2012070002 dated Sept 2012. The bulletin has a note that states "...Service Campaigns do not expire (in bold) and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator." I called Lone Star Mercedes in Calgary AB Canada. They told me the Campaign has expired.

Do you have an idea how I square the two different positions.

Thank you in advance,

Michael

write to Merc Canada and ask what they say - its their money the dealer would be spending

the bits to stop oil going where it shouldn't are available for not much and simple to fit either way - exercise the engine when hot so the piston rings remember how to work and the excess crank case pressure vanishes, instead of looking for places to escape

Does anyone know if 2013 model years are included, or if there is another service campaign?

Mercedes C180 Kompressor
Yes, I have this problem in my C180 Kompressor. It's a major headache and a potentially expensive one also.
I don't know what Mercedes was thinking with this engineering design flaw. It's quite prevalent and a poor show. Very disappointing.

Not sure if this is known to everyone but in Germany, there are quite a few sources for oil stop cables. When you Google "Ölstoppkabel" you can find both enthusiast shops like Motoren Zimmer and parts manufacturers like Meyle.
My m278 started having first signs of oil at the sensors which were checked regularly, the Mercedes dealership has sourced the cables accordingly and will mount them soon.

Sorry, I have no info on the 2013 C180 model but being older than ten years may exclude a warranty. You may need to ask a Mercedes dealer and or take corrective measures yourself to help circumvent such a problem arising. It's an easy fit with the aftermarket wiring pigtails available from numerous motor part suppliers. If your DIY minded, it's a relatively easy fit. Fitting these will stop any oil wicking/ingress into the wiring harness in the event of perished O ring seals on the magnetic camshaft sensors. Best of luck.

I managed to check all 8 plugs during the last service on my S550 and somehow did not notice that all of my adjusters have the extension harnesses already. The two exhaust ones were leaking but I guess it doesn't really matter. A friend bought an 09 CLK550 from eBay and that also had the OEM adjuster extensions. What's the verdict on why they never released extensions for the CMPs? I know there are aftermarket options (and I have them on my E63S).
