the GPS antenna failing does this (very common issue on E lass of 2003 to 2009 era)
you can buy a GPS antenna on ebay for $40 with the blue fakra plug - it can even sit under the dash on the S class (there's even a cut out in the IR glass for this retrofit in the middle near the wipers), otherwise nightmare job in the shark fin on the roof I believe
