might be a bit of undertray dragging on the ground
unlikely but air coming out of the tyre
or might be suspension related, you can get really odd sounds from suspension or ARB bushes but it may be a damaged airbag releasing air as it moves - never read on here but fairly normal on E class estates that the air bags self seal as the weight drops back on them... try using the button on the dash to raise to full height - turn off the engine and see if trying to rock the car gets anywhere...
the other thing, usually a leaking system will drop a lot over night - in the end you'll wear out the compressor - suspension level sensor link rods seize and should be part of a maint programme

Definitely your air strut, just replaced my driver side 3 months ago and the passenger side last week. For what it is worth I replaced mine with suncors since mine is not 4matic, the price was right and so far so good.

If the vehicle is holding normal ride height and you hear air escaping, it can also be a broken air reservoir/fitting..it’s located on the driver side, directly below the headlight. As they age, they tend to crack. When my CL was hissing air, it looked perfectly normal, but the air hose was cracked at the fitting to the tank
on all other older mercs people play with just the air bags - why don't we see that on the 221s - the dampers on mine have never done any work - but at the back, one of the gaiters has fallen to bits and the car would likely benefit from swapping a sad stiff air bag for nice air tight soft supple ones ?

I always assumed these have air struts at all 4 corners to mimic the ABC setup (as opposed to the separate air spring in the rear on the E-class, for example). I've never heard of anyone separately servicing the air spring on the front strut of an E-class.
