Code P2099 with Check Engine Light

Dealer did a check and found that the service campaign 2019040001 was completed on my car in May of 2019 and told me to keep them informed of whether the light returns after I replaced the two downstream oxy sensors.

although why would he say that if the right ECU software was actually on the car... ? sounds a bit like he wants to know whats he can sell to customers to hide the lights whilst ensuring he leaves as many bugs on other's car as possible
this is my 'concern' with the upbeat positive attitude I see in American people... there is something in the water that makes you guys happy and unable to see the world for how sick and twisted it really is - I get I'm at the other end of that scale - part genetic, part stuck in the practice zone for western people's entrapment into a world of despair, and part 30 years working for people who are connected to those that land the divide

I would agree theres something affecting Americans but its not in the water, its drug use and its eroding peoples minds. Fortunately I have a good dealer when I need one. The last one I used to use told me I needed $10,000 worth of repairs, the next day I took it to the place I use now and was told that list of repairs were not needed, a year later they still aren't needed. Obviously some dealerships feel the need to make stuff up to get business while others are so busy from legitimate repairs there's a wait.

I replaced both downstream oxygen sensors which were only a year old with around 5000-6000 miles on them and so far the last couple hundred miles the light has not come back on. I finally burned the tank of gas I had and put in a bottle of Techron and the car runs like its brand new. Saved a trip to the dealer for now. Two downstream Bosch oxy sensors were $110 at Napa, 1 bottle of Techron was $20.

Delighted it was a relatively simple fix. I routinely run a bottle of Techron every other month. Buy it by the case. It is the only bottled product I use. Normally, most bottled products are garbage. But my V12 loves Sunoco Super and Techron.
I have heard of cheap Ebay Chinese sensors not working well. I only used Bosch sensors now. The only Chinese part I like is the plastic hood release spring.

NTK (part of NGK) is what BMW used for CAT sensors on my bike...
I just saw a bit on TV or in magazine (forget which), about the history of RR and how they had never used ANY foreign parts in there cars ever... when suddenly for the USA market they couldn't meet new emission regs and had to move from Champion Spark Plugs to a different make ... its the same make plug anyone sensible uses in their motorbikes - and in my w221 :-) and was the same Brand plug they later used for the Bentley Turbo in the 80's - NGK - anything else readily available is just garbage
in WW2 when the USA finally bothered to help out, ALL the planes landing in the UK where misfiring and playing up - so the first upgrade was to put plugs made by the guy that invented them - he did the Radio too (not that charlatan Marconi who got famous pretending he thought of it, yet one year earlier it was publicly shown working by the real guy .... ) and they should be Lodge's not Hertz too !!!! he went on holiday and Hertz published his work...

I've got four new O2 sensors sitting on my garage shelf, ready to put in when my car comes back from the dealer. During the snow months here in Iowa, I'm going to put the car on my QuickJack, and leave it there while doing a bunch of projects. The O2 sensors...did your come off fairly easily? Any advice, besides likely breaking them loose when the car is hot?

I hold out as much faith in german branded and produced goods, as I do in value crap from china with a 1 week life expectancy - that's not actually true - I expect the Chinese stuff to last at least twice as long !!!!

First off I would use Bosch since one of their engineers told me they make them for Mercedes, or you could just get them from dealer for more $. If you have an S550 W221, 3 of them on my 2013 were pretty easy with a 22mm stubby wrench I ordered from Napa for $20. But the driver side upstream will require either lowering the exhaust or else have either a kid or woman with small hands help because on my 2013 the top of the sensor is pointing right at the heat shield. I had to first cut the wire at the top so I could get a socket on it which allowed me to get it loose but putting the new one on will take lots of patience and perseverance as the wire will need to spin as it turns in. Without lowering exhaust on driver side you’ll need a child size hand to twist it in from below. Hands don’t fit not do tools. The stubby 22mm was necessary for all of them. I didn’t have one at first and did it without but I have one now just for 02 sensors in future.

I didn’t have any luck with one of those. The socket I used to break the up steam driver side loose was a deep socket open down the side. Two fingers to screw in new one because big hands don’t fit. Snubby 22mm wrench on other three. If I do the driver side up stream again I’ll drop the exhaust a little to make room for my hand. No tool will help you get that one back in but a very small hand might. I’m referring to the 2013 S550, it could be different on other models.

I was doing it alone and the driver up stream was a real *****. I tied a string under the hood like a little tite rope that held the wire on the new one dangling the sensor just above the hole where it screws into then went underneath using two fingers I managed to turn it in and get it started. If I did it again, before lowering the exhaust on that side I’d find a kid to pay because a small hand will do it I think. Hell it may even inspire them to be a mechanic, who knows. Because that one is so difficult to change I used dealer part for both upstream although the passenger side is easy.

The P2097 code with check engine light came back on today but the car is running really good. Funny because the dealer just had the car yesterday doing some cooling system work. Got in it this morning to go somewhere and it came back on.

if the adaptions show its on its limit trying to lean out the mixture - maybe an injector is dribbling.... (but the thread starts on the other side - then morphed to bank 1... so likely some other muddle up)

Once the PCM (power train control module - AKA engine management ECU) enters closed loop operation (where the amount going in is controlled via the readings of the CAT sensors), if the bank 1 or 2 downstream O2 sensor circuit input readings reflect too few oxygen molecules in the exhaust (aka its running too rich), a P2097 or P2099 code will be stored and a malfunction indicator lamp may be illuminated.

I wonder if I'm getting the check engine light P2097 code because of the coolant leak that was leaking from the back of the engine and potentially getting on the plug connector to the driver side upstream oxy sensor. That leak was just above that connector.

I found this which talks about reasons of a P2097 and one cause mentions moisture on the connector. My heater control valve on the back of my engine was leaking coolant on the Oxy connector upstream. Dealer replaced the valve yesterday, I drove 50 miles and then next day I drove 5 miles and the code came on again.
