Identify wires connected to OEM camera ; 2008 s550

Hello, previous owner(s) connected OEM camera by hardwiring camera to 3 wires coming out of branch of wires with antenna wires . Can the three wires be identified that are connected here? I have a strange feeling that this in not correctly wired . There are no voltage controller boxes on the car . Command shows black screen with lines for parking.

I purchased another 2008 OEM used camera and just swapped by connecting to the back pin plug of camera but no luck. Any help in identifying what is going on here or what wires those are would be much appreciated!

Is the bare metal camera wire (pin 4 ) supposed to be grounded to vehicle bolt somewhere at minimum ?

Previous owner has the yellow camera wire to yellow vehicle wire , red camera wire to red vehicle wire , both black camera wire & bare metal wire camera to brown vehicle wire .

Loom it’s coming out of with antenna booster wires

I think the guy has connected to the wrong parts of the car bodging it all up - the std camera has 4 wires - the correct way is to check a wiring diagram - without that, I think

plus and minus power
one is the video signal which goes to the back of the comand unit - early metal cameras I thought white is the video signal on later black plastic cameras its the dark grey wire (on the camera) BUT check the last picture below
and I suspect the other is a control signal on the canbus - that takes a signal switched by the cluster knowing the car has reverse selected
depending on car spec and age static (non moving) guide lines can be something you turn on inside the comand unit settings OR inside cheap aftermarket cameras, where some have user preference switchable lines
note: if retro fitting the opposite camera you must re-pin two wires - for no sensible reason they moved position on the black plastic cameras (I guess just to try to stop you using the cheaper better later one.....)

not that your car is std -

the Rear Sam - fuse 133 top left (of the SRB-H actually) is where Merc expected you to get power

re table below - here's the other multiplug that was confusing me... most photos of the back of the unit don't show it (only one is used... the other must for for something no one talks about)

std old metal camera

re-pinned plastic camera (when fitting the later camera on an older car) note Pin 1 is dark grey (not the black in Pin 3)

bit confused on this one below
I don't recollect camera wiring going to the small socket on the back of the comand
note: red circled bit is for aux in sound.
I'm not sure but maybe the Pin 1 yellow and white on the camera is the can connection !
I'm not making much sense where you send in the video signal ???? people say pin 7 and 17 (but in that case more than one wire????

pdf of some of it

Thank you BOTUS. I appreciate the help. The camera I have is plastic . It’s as the second pic as you stated correctly with pin 1 grey (I erroneously stated it was pin 4.). So I can’t find diagrams either . This wiring seems odd for the 2008.

I have no vision from cam wired up with;
-grey wire & blk wire from cam to vehicle brown
-yellow cam wire to yellow vehicle
-red cam wire to red vehicle
*with both the camera that was on vehicle and purchased used oem 2008 cam. They both may not be in working condition as it is .

I purchased a brand new universal cam and hooked it up to test it out as;
-Negative cam wire to brown vehicle
-Positive cam wire to red vehicle
-Rca yellow video (cut plug off to expose brown and yellow wires) to yellow vehicle wire
Still no optical .

Think I’m just going to remove the wiring that the previous owner installed cap the wire ends off . Keep camera structure in place to keep hole blocked off. Call it quits . I pulled a data card with the vin and of course did not come factory installed . Not sure what went on here . I appreciate your help you provided BOTUS!

there is no wiring to the back off the comand as std... that comes when you add them.... messing with parking sensors I don't see how it can ever get you an image on the screen - there's no connection that way

pulling the comand is easy - but take a video of all the cables as getting it back in the hole is hard work - particularly if it has an iPod kit

Question W221 2006 model no Camera in factory option, What do I need?

Hey guys,

I saw the post. Read through the thread was pretty helpful but need to clarify a few things. I have 2006 S550, w221 no camera. My friend unlocked the camera option in Comand. What do I need to install the camera?

I am sourcing parts of Ebay.... so
1. reverse camera oem.
2. reverse camera module.
3. maybe harnesses?

Can anyone help me?

Or I have the car play module and should I try to connect it to that and then turnoff the reverse option and go non-oem.

my priority is to open as less parts as possible! so how and what way oem can work?
